As Crew Coach, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of the growing program, introducing athletes to the sport and refining the skills experienced rowers. Summary
The Crew Coach works with our high school boys’ team promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and person development while instilling a love for the sport of rowing. In alignment with the Xaverian values of compassion, humility, simplicity, trust and zeal, the Crew Coach will develop students’ character and rowing skills, supporting their growth both on the water and in life.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the overall plan for the Saint Xavier High School Crew program, including the coordination of training, practice, and competition schedules.
- Recruit, select, oversee, evaluate, and develop both crew athletes and assistant coaches with varied skill and experience levels.
- Conduct practices that focus on rowing techniques, racing strategies, endurance training, strength conditioning, and team coordination.
- Foster a collaborative team environment emphasizes respect and good sportsmanship.
- Ensure safety by promoting compliance with safety standards, maintaining equipment, and enforcing protocols during practices and events.
- Adheres to all school financial policies regarding the collection and disbursement of money, expenses, and receipts.
- Ensure that athlete eligibility and conduct rules and regulations are explained and followed. • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of a High School diploma required, with a bachelor's degree in physical education, sports science, or a related field preferred.
- Knowledge and expertise in the techniques and strategies of rowing.
- Knowledge of and adherence to recognized safety standards.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Willingness to work long hours during peak periods.
- Ability to work in varied weather conditions including extreme heat and cold and requires some heavy lifting.
- A valid driver’s license with a willingness to transport students.
