Charge Nurse

Location : Coastal Oaks Recovery, Port Royal, South Carolina

About Coastal Oaks Recovery

Located in the heart of the Lowcountry in South Carolina, Coastal Oaks Recovery is a 72-bed substance-use treatment center serving adults aged eighteen and older. Nestled on five serene acres near the coastal waters and wetlands of Port Royal, Coastal Oaks provides a tranquil environment for individuals suffering from addiction to stabilize and embark on their journey toward recovery and wellness.

At Coastal Oaks Recovery, we offer medically monitored detoxification under the direct care of physicians and nurses, supported by a multidisciplinary treatment team. In addition to withdrawal management, our residential treatment services provide a safe and structured environment for 30 to 45 days, ensuring that each patient builds a solid foundation of recovery skills prior to discharge.

Our evidence-based programming includes group therapy, individual counseling, family programming, and specialized care tailored to meet individual needs. With a holistic and experiential approach, we emphasize safety, collaboration, and a patient-first culture that nurtures recovery and wellness for both patients and staff.

Position Purpose

The Charge Nurse is responsible for overseeing nursing care and operations during designated shifts, ensuring high-quality care and adherence to clinical protocols at Coastal Oaks Recovery. Reporting to the Nursing Coordinator, the Charge Nurse plays a vital role in managing staff, addressing patient needs, and supporting interdisciplinary collaboration to foster a safe and effective recovery environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Patient Care and Supervision

Assist nursing staff in the evaluation and assessment of patient needs and provide direct patient care as necessary.
Conduct patient rounds to monitor progress, address concerns, and ensure a high standard of care.
Adjust patient assignments and manage staff scheduling to accommodate patient needs and special care requirements.
Oversee the administration of medications and ensure compliance with prescribed protocols.

Operational Leadership

Receive and provide detailed shift reports to ensure continuity of care and address any urgent issues.

Manage scheduling of patient appointments and coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to address care needs.

Prepare nursing assignments for upcoming shifts based on patient acuity and staff availability.

Participate in staff meetings, conferences, and training sessions to maintain alignment with organizational goals.

Compliance and Documentation

Ensure proper documentation of patient care, including medication administration and progress notes.

Maintain compliance with Coastal Oaks Recovery policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.

Monitor and report any safety concerns, incidents, or quality assurance issues promptly.

Collaboration and Communication

Act as a liaison between nursing staff and other departments to address patient care issues.

Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment to promote team morale and professional growth.

Provide mentorship and guidance to nursing staff to support skill development and adherence to best practices.

Skills and Abilities

Strong clinical nursing skills with the ability to lead and supervise effectively.

Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.

Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with staff and patients.

Ability to handle high-pressure situations with composure and sound judgment.

Knowledge of addiction treatment and co-occurring mental health conditions is preferred.

Education and Experience

Required : Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in South Carolina.

Preferred : Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN).

Minimum of three years of nursing experience, with at least one year in a leadership or supervisory role.

Experience in substance use treatment, detoxification, or mental health settings is highly desirable.

Licensure / Certification

Current CPR certification.

Additional certifications in addiction nursing or psychiatric care are a plus.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 25 pounds.

Ability to manage physical and mental demands of working in a fast-paced recovery environment.

Work primarily indoors in a temperature-controlled environment.
