Job Summary: The Director for Civil Engineering Design will lead and oversee the civil engineering design efforts for data center development projects. This role involves managing a team of engineers, ensuring the reliability and design effectiveness of significant projects, and collaborating with various stakeholders to achieve project goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Management:
- Direct and manage a team of civil engineers and design professionals.
- Assess potential risks, materials, and costs for projects.
- Oversee and mentor junior staff and liaise with a variety of stakeholders.
- Ensure projects comply with guidelines, regulations, and safety standards.
- Monitor project progress and compile status reports.
- Develop and implement strategies for effective project execution.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Project Oversight:
- Approve project schedules and ensure timely completion of design phases.
- Establish and enforce quality control and safety policies.
- Oversee the civil team for the Stafford Technology Campus, dedicating up to 50% of the work week to this responsibility.
- Technical Expertise:
- Provide technical support and design to support Sales and Development teams for early site due diligence and site test fits.
- Provide technical guidance and support to the I&E team.
- Ensure compliance with industry codes, standards, and regulations.
- Review and approve engineering plans, specifications, and reports.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Work closely with project managers, architects, and other stakeholders.
- Manage relationships with new critical project partners.
- Communicate project progress and challenges to senior management.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Stay updated with advancements in civil engineering and data center design.
- Implement best practices and innovative solutions to enhance project outcomes.
- Develop budgets, policies, and procedures to support the functional infrastructure.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Proven working experience in civil engineering and land development
- Minimum of 5 years of experience developing data center sites, especially with hyperscale clients
- Excellent knowledge of design and visualization software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar.
- Proficiency in site layout, grading, utility design, erosion control, and regulatory approvals.
- Strong project management and supervision skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
