THE POSITION:
At STACK, The Director, Mechanical Engineering & Design, will support innovation initiatives, maintain and update company design standards and direct, coordinate, and oversee project specific design activities within the Innovation and Engineering department ensuring the development of cost-effective and energy efficient data center facilities to meet current and future needs of the company.
Acting as the subject matter expert on cooling systems for data centers, the Director of Mechanical Engineering & Design will advise and support the Innovation and Engineering team by executing the following tasks:
- Oversees the preparation and final approval of project contract documents produced by third party design consultants.
- Ensures that project designs are completed on schedule and within budget.
- Supplies engineering expertise and guidance on projects, operations, and systems within the company’s existing facilities.
- Develops and maintains equipment specifications for owner furnished and contractor installed (OFCI) equipment and systems.
- Supports the procurement of owner furnished and contractor installed equipment and systems through vendor submittal reviews, approvals and factory witness testing.
- Maintains and updates the legacy basis of design documents.
- Assists in development of new basis of designs for emerging business needs.
- Identifies, recommends, and implements new technologies and systems to maximize energy and cost efficiency of the company’s data centers.
- Communicates and implements engineering and design policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent operations.
- Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in engineering and design trends related to the organizations industry.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
THE DETAILS:
- Location: Onsite at one of Stack’s Locations; (Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Northern Virginia, Phoenix, Portland, San Jose)
- Travel: Domestic travel required up to 30%
- Must be eligible to work in the United States
- Must pass comprehensive background screening
MUST-HAVE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the design of data centers and specification of HVAC equipment for mission critical facilities to be considered for Director level position.
- Candidates with 5-7 years’ experience in design of data centers can apply but will be considered for a Manager level position.
- Expertise in IT cooling technologies, both air and direct to chip liquid
- Understanding of mechanical cooling system controls
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint
- Baseline proficiency of AutoCAD, Bluebeam and Adobe Acrobat
