What are the responsibilities and job description for the LGBTQ PRIDE FELLOW position at Staff and Faculty?
Job Summary:
The Fellow in this highly competitive paid two-year position is an integral part of the Center for LGBTQ Education, Outreach & Services team. The fellow is directly involved in the daily operations of the Center. Qualifications include excellent administrative, planning, organizational, communication (verbal and written), and computer skills. Candidates must be team-oriented, demonstrate initiative, and be self-motivated. Preference will be given to candidates who are interested in pursuing a career in Student Affairs or Higher Education, and have student leadership experience. Residence in Ithaca, NY, is required during the fellowship, and on-campus housing is provided.
This is an hourly paid, benefits-eligible position, with on-campus housing included in the compensation package.
Job Responsibilities:
- Coordinate, schedule, and plan existing Center programs
- Create, implement, and assess new Center programs in coordination with the Director
- Provide office support such as answering phones, replying to emails, staffing front desk, and maintaining Center spaces
- Supervising student staff members and delegating tasks
- Represent the LGBTQ Center through events, tabling, marketing and other outreach events including Admission Open Houses and Alumni Weekend
- Work assigned extended hours and opening coverage for the Center as needed
- Assist with larger Center initiatives including Pride Prom, LGBTQ History Month, Lavender Graduation, and the Gender Affirming Closet
- Communicate and build relationships with faculty, staff, and student organizations in order to promote LGBTQ outreach initiatives and training
- Assist in creating and facilitating programs for classes, organizations, or offices
- Assist with the advising and support of IC LGBTQ students, student organizations, and student leaders
- Facilitate LGBTQ student and student organization team building
- Coordinate publicity and promotion of LGBTQ Center programs and services through print, social media and other opportunities
- Actively employ analysis of all work through racial and gender justice lenses
- Collaborate with Student Affairs professionals on campus, as well as partnering cross divisionally with staff and faculty
- Take part in professional and personal development discussions and reflection opportunities
Job Qualifications:
- Recent recipient of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field, from a regionally accredited college or university
- Strong interest in LGBTQ people and themes, [CD1] and a commitment to educational equity
- Strong interest in Student Affairs and Higher Education fields
- Strong interest in supporting and developing students
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- An understanding of multiple relationships to power, privilege and oppression
- Ability to work effectively with students of varying identities, backgrounds and lived experiences
- Demonstrated leadership experience
- Willingness and availability to work some evening and weekend hours
- Excellent decision making and time management skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective student, staff, and community relationships/partnerships
The fellowship is a year-round position. Fellowship responsibilities require some evening and weekend work hours. Fellows are paid during student break periods and are expected to work during this time.
Applicants should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong interest in LGBTQ people and themes, and a commitment to educational equity. Competition for fellowship positions is high. Residence in Ithaca NY is required during the fellowship, and housing is provided.
This is a two-year appointment from July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027. This position is 37.5 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.
