Electrical/Controls/Automation Engineer
Location: Durham, North Carolina
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Electrical/Controls/Automation Engineer to take charge of specifying, designing, configuring, testing, supervising, and manufacturing control, electrical, and automation systems. In this role, you will serve as a technical reference for designers and engineering technicians responsible for automation, instrumentation, and control system integration/development. Additionally, you will provide remote assistance for on-site installation and support of PLC/HMI/computer-based hardware, offer schedule and cost updates to project managers on multi-discipline projects, and maintain effective communication with clients and co-workers. You will report directly to the location manager.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Designing control systems and instrumentation equipment, including electrical control panels.
- Conducting analytical assessments and troubleshooting.
- Initiating and leading projects independently.
- Assisting with installation and commissioning tasks (experience preferred but not required).
- Modifying and upgrading existing systems.
- Familiarity with PLC/SCADA software (Siemens Step 7/WinCC/TIA Portal, Rockwell Automation/Allen Bradley RSLogix5000 and FactoryTalk is a plus but not required).
- Background in computer programming (a plus but not required).
- Understanding of hazardous area equipment and installation requirements (ATEX, IECEx, NEC, NFPA, etc.).
- Knowledge of DNV, ABS, API, and MODU codes/standards (a plus but not required).
- Effective communication with clients, co-workers, and management.
Qualifications and Skills:
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role; field or industry experience may substitute depending on experience level.
- Strong interpersonal communication and report writing skills.
- Proactive problem-solving approach.
- Proficiency in various computer skills, including the use of MS-Office Suite.
- Working knowledge of CAD and similar design software.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Electronic & Electrical/Controls/Instrumentation Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Valid US work credentials.
