Job Description
The dentist will provide professional dental care for youth who are in the custody of OCFS by diagnosing and treating diseases, injuries and malformations of teeth and gums. The dentist will perform a full-range of dental duties in connection with the treatment of dental diseases or dental health problems requiring corrective restorative or preventive measures as required by agency policy and procedures.
PRIMARY CLINICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Conduct examinations of individuals teeth and surrounding oral structures utilizing x-rays, mouth mirrors and other diagnostic procedures and instruments to determine pathological or irregular conditions.
• Treat dental diseases, injuries and malfunctions of teeth and gums.
• Perform restoration of simple and compound cavities. • Administer anesthetics.
• Perform oral surgery commensurate with professional qualifications.
• Perform extractions of teeth.
• Clean teeth by scaling calculus.
• Treat teeth, mouth and gum infections with appropriate drugs or by surgery.
• Maintain written records of individuals dental treatments.
• Advise individuals about dental health practices.
• Instruct and direct paraprofessional dental staff in the performance of auxiliary duties.
