Job Summary:
The Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist is responsible for executing and maintaining the company’s health and safety policies and programs, ensuring compliance with OSHA, industry standards, and state regulations. This role will partner with various teams, manage safety initiatives, and lead the continuous improvement of the work environment to ensure the safety and well-being of all employees.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety Program Management: Develop, implement, and manage safety programs such as Accident Prevention Plans (APP), Injury and Illness Prevention Programs (IIPP), Emergency Disaster Preparedness, and others.
- Collaboration: Partner with HR, Operations, and other departments to maintain a safe work environment and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Training & Certification: Coordinate forklift driver certification/recertification programs and ensure safety training for new hires, agency employees, and contractors.
- Facility & Equipment Safety: Conduct safety inspections, ensure compliance with safety policies (e.g., lockout/tag-out, fall protection), and maintain safety-related equipment and machinery.
- Incident Investigation: Investigate accidents and illnesses, identify root causes, and implement preventive measures.
- Workers’ Compensation: Administer Workers’ Compensation Claims in collaboration with HR, ensuring timely investigations and preventative actions.
- Safety Committee Leadership: Lead the Safety Committee to enhance safety awareness and drive continuous safety improvements.
- Emergency Response: Assist in emergency situations and serve as a liaison with safety vendors for first aid and other emergency services.
- Safety Communication: Use various tools (TV monitors, bulletin boards, emails, etc.) to communicate safety awareness across the facility.
- Safety Inventory Management: Maintain and manage the inventory of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety supplies.
- Safety Drills & Incentives: Conduct annual emergency response drills and implement safety incentive programs to recognize employee safety achievements.
- Security & Surveillance: Oversee the company’s security systems and assist with issuing badges for employees and visitors.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience is also acceptable.
- Experience: Minimum of 6 years of experience in environmental health and safety, risk management, or a related field in a logistics/warehouse environment. At least 3 years of supervisory experience.
- Certifications: OSHA 30-hour certification is a plus.
- Skills:
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to analyze data and provide actionable recommendations.
- Experience with surveillance camera monitoring software.
- Other Abilities:
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is required.
- Ability to travel (up to 25%) to various warehouse facilities.
- Ability to maintain composure under pressure and handle sensitive situations with diplomacy.
Salary : $80,000 - $90,000
