Pay Grade:         Administrative and Professional Scale Grade A05

Work Calendar: All 12 Month Staff

FLSA Status: Exempt

 

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under the supervision of the Director of Special Education, this position provides leadership in the development and implementation of special education programs.

MAIN JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide leadership for Special Education Services

  • Serves as a consultant with school administrators, professionals, support staff, and families.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of the strategic plan and IDEA.
  • Assists the director of special education in response to OCR, compliance, and due process.
  • Develops interagency agreements.
  • Assists in the revision of local special education policies and procedures to include the revision of forms.
  • Develops professional growth opportunities in the area of special education for school staff.

Assists in the recruitment and selection of special education staff.

  • Visits and observes special educational programs, teachers, and paraprofessionals.
  • Evaluates the performance of special education staff as determined by the Director of Special Education and the Chief Officer for Student Support Services.
  • Oversees the daily function of specific special education program areas to be assigned by the Director of Special Education and the Chief Officer for Student Support Services.
  • Assists in scheduling itinerant special education staff.
  • Serves as a liaison to the department of transportation regarding the needs of special education students.
  • Serves as a program specialist in the areas of Level 1 and level 2 services for students with disabilities.
  • Provides direction and serves as a point of contact for assigned secondary schools and programs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university, in a related field.
  • Five (5) years of successful experience as a special education teacher.
  • Experience as a school-based administrator or teacher leader (such as department chair or lead teacher) preferred.

    • Curriculum and professional de velopment including educational technology, student assessment and educational program planning.
    • Special education process and current legal mandates as related to student
    • Current trends and issues in the area of special education.

    • Work cooperatively in a team environment to meet goals
    • Organize and perform work independently

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Work environment is primarily inside, with moderate noise, temperatures that are moderate, and no exposure to chemicals or other negative air quality elements.
  • The work is light work, requiring exertion of up to 20 pounds of force to move or lift objects.
  • The following physical and mental abilities are representative of those expected to complete the essential functions of the job: standing for prolonged periods; sitting for prolonged periods; moving the hands, wrists, or fingers repetitively; moving with force on the back or lower body repetitively; feeling, grasping, or holding objections by hand; identifying colors visually; identifying objects in low light or distant conditions; communicating via spoken language; communicating via written language; perceiving sounds; making decisions using logic and rational thinking.

Salary : $76,034 - $122,562
