Job Description

Performs responsible unskilled and semi-skilled custodial work in the care, cleaning and maintenance of County buildings; does related work as required. Work is performed under regular supervision.

The hiring range for this position is $15.13/hour to $20.81/hour based on experience.
The full salary range for this position is $15.13/hour to $26.48/hour to provide opportunity for growth and development.

Examples of Duties

• Cleans and maintains county buildings and grounds;
• Opens building, unlocks all exterior doors;
• Sweeps, vacuums or dust mops assigned areas;
• Removes trash from buildings and puts in dumpster;
• Scrubs and cleans toilets including mirrors, wash basins, urinals, commodes, slop sinks, etc., and fills tissue, towel, and soap dispensers;
• Dusts furniture, walls, window sills, baseboards, chalk trays, and other woodwork;
• Washes walls and woodwork, dusts venetian blinds;
• Cleans drinking fountains;
• Moves furniture as required;
• Checks heating and cooling equipment and overnight building security and reports problems to proper agency;
• Cleans around trash dumpster;
• Shovels snow and ice, mows grass, trims shrubbery, etc.;
• Removes graffiti from interior and exterior of building;
• Checks and replaces burned out lights, reports need for ballast replacements;
• Cleans air conditioning filters;
• Orders needed supplies and maintains records of same;
• Performs related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• General knowledge of basic computer skills and use of a work order system;
• General knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, and equipment;
• General knowledge of building fixtures, mechanical systems, and equipment;
• Ability to operate lawn care equipment effectively and safely;
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions;
• Ability to get along well with others.

Education and Experience

Graduation from high school or equivalent experience in custodial and building maintenance work.
