Job Description
This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and feeling; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, oils, and wearing a respirator. The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.
The hiring range for this position is from $27.87/hour to $38.33/hour based on experience.
The full salary range for this position is from $27.87/hour to $48.78/hour to provide opportunity for growth and development.
Examples of Duties
- Transports and operates equipment in support of the maintenance, repair or construction of water and sewer lines and accessories;
- Participates in the installation of water and sewer taps, large meter taps and pits;
- Repairs and replaces sewer and water lines and related facilities;
- Unstops sewer lines;
- Serves as welder, fabricating and repairing equipment;
- Operates trucks, tractors, back-hoe, trencher, jet and vacuum trucks, TV monitor and other mechanical equipment in connection with the above tasks;
- Complies with safety programs, guidelines and procedures;
- Responds to emergency calls;
- Performs related tasks as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of repair, maintenance and operation of construction equipment in support of water and sewer line repair, maintenance and construction; thorough knowledge of repair, maintenance and construction of water and sewer lines; thorough knowledge of the tools, materials and equipment used in such repair work; thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work; thorough knowledge of the operation of water and sewer line equipment, tools and accessories; ability to assign and supervise the work of water and sewer maintenance personnel; ability to prepare simple reports.
