Fire & Rescue Firefighter/EMT - 03827

Performs difficult protective service work providing fire suppression, emergency medical care and hazardous materials handling. Does related work as required. Work is performed under emergency conditions and usually involves an element of personal danger. Work is performed under regular supervision.

Stafford County Fire & Rescue is seeking experienced firefighter/EMTs:

• Candidates must have left employment of the Stafford County Fire and Rescue Department since July 1, 2023. 
• Candidates must have separated from the Stafford County Fire and Rescue Department in good standing and be eligible for rehire. 
• Candidates must have maintained necessary fire/EMS certifications and be compliant with the employment standards of the Stafford County Fire and Rescue Department.

The full annual salary range for this position is from $58,352.32 to $97,938.88.

• Responds to emergency calls, suppresses fires, provides basic and advanced life support emergency medical services, handles hazardous materials, prepares and maintains detailed records;
• Responds to alarms and assists in the suppression of fires and in hazardous materials handling;
• Responds to emergency medical calls, drives equipment, and administers first aid;
• Participates in training and professional development;
• Conducts pre-fire planning activities and fire prevention inspections;
• Participates in community awareness and public education programs concerning fire prevention and public education;
• Maintains tools, apparatus, and equipment in ready condition;
• Assists volunteer companies in the inspection and maintenance of equipment, apparatus, and tools;
• Performs a variety of administrative tasks as assigned such as: data entry, preparing activity reports, and relaying information to volunteer companies;
• Attends training sessions to maintain current skills and to acquire new skills;
• Performs safety inspections and prepares pre-plan surveys;
• Provides CPR instruction to students;
• Performs inventory, orders, and stocks supplies on ambulances;
• Performs related tasks as required.

• Thorough knowledge of the principles and techniques of emergency care, including diagnosis, proper treatment, and automobile extraction and transportation; 
• Thorough knowledge of fire suppression methods and techniques; 
• General knowledge of dangers and proper handling of hazardous materials; 
• Thorough knowledge of the street system and geography of the County; 
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; 
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with associates, volunteer staff, and the general public; 
• Ability to keep records and prepare reports. 

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by required firefighting and emergency medical training and successful completion of the recruit academy.
