Utilities Maintenance Mechanic - 03714

Performs intermediate skilled work in the maintenance, repair and replacement of machinery and equipment in a water or wastewater treatment plant and pump stations; does related work as required.  Work is performed under regular supervision.

here are three levels available for this position classification, the hiring salary ranges for those levels based on experience are: 
Utilities Maintenance Mechanic I - Grade A07 - $22.73/hour to $31.26/hour
Utilities Maintenance Mechanic II - Grade A09 - $26.04/hour to $35.81/hour
Utilities Maintenance Mechanic III - Grade A10 - $27.87/hour to $38.33/hour

The full salary range for each level to provide opportunity for growth and development are: 
Utilities Maintenance Mechanic I - Grade A07 - $22.73/hour to $39.78/hour
Utilities Maintenance Mechanic II - Grade A09 - $26.04/hour to $45.57/hour
Utilities Maintenance Mechanic III - Grade A10 - $27.87/hour to $48.78/hour

• Performs preventive maintenance on utility plant equipment and pump stations and assists with the repair of plant and pump station equipment;
• Checks water and wastewater treatment plant and pump stations;
• Performs preventive maintenance on such equipment as pumps, engines, electric motors and controls, blowers, conveyors, ventilation systems;
• Dismantles and assists in overhauling plant equipment;
• Maintains records;
• Performs related tasks as required.

• General knowledge of the installation, repair and maintenance of the mechanical, hydraulic and electrical components of water and wastewater treatment and pump station equipment;
• Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions of the work; 
• Skill in the use and care of tools of the trade; 
• Ability to determine improper operation of water and wastewater pumping and treatment equipment, and to take proper remedial action; 
• Ability to follow oral and written directions; 
• Ability to supervise the work of skilled helpers; 
• Ability to work under adverse conditions.

Utilities Maintenance Mechanic I
Any combination of education and experience equivalent graduation from high school and considerable mechanical maintenance including the repair and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment and pumping equipment.

Utilities Maintenance Mechanic II:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent graduation from high school and considerable experience in the repair and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment and pumping equipment.

Utilities Maintenance Mechanic III:
Graduation from high school and 5 years of experience in the repair and maintenance of a variety of water and wastewater pumping station mechanical, electrical and control equipment.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of an appropriate commercial driver's license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
