Job Description
The Behavior Support Teacher is responsible for collaborating with the Special Education Department and school campus staff, to provide support, training and modeling for special education students in the areas of behavioral interventions for students with disabilities. In addition, the Behavior SupportTeacher is responsible for providing support to autistic students and other students who demonstrate severe behavior disorders.

Education/Certification:
Master's Degree in Education/Special Education (preferred)
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject/level assigned
Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) (preferred)
Demonstrate competency in the area assigned
Special Knowledge/Skills
Knowledge of area assigned
Working knowledge of federal laws, state guidelines, and local district policies
In-depth knowledge of specialized instruction options and strategies for teaching students with
special needs in the areas of behavior
Provide staff development sessions in the areas of behavior and model effective instructional and
teaching strategies for students with special needs
Perform other duties as assigned

Responsibilities
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Assume responsibility for the organization and operation of work within the area of supporting students and staff working with special education students following federal program guidelines as directed by the district.
- Provide campus support through modeling strategies, developing classroom schedules, creating materials, demonstrating strategies, district training sessions, etc. for campus staff of students with special needs in the area of behavior.
- Collaborate with the Special Education Leadership team and campus staff regarding implementation of evidence-based strategies and communication on campuses.
- Develop and provide consultation to special education staff and students about evidence-based strategies and specialized behavior programming.
- Support campus staff in the development and implementation of Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA)/Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) for students with behaviorial challenges.
- Work collaboratively with the LSSPs.
- Monitor the compliance of the utilization of BIPs in the classroom.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible and serve as a role model for district staff.
- Effectively implement educational programming in the least restrictive environment for students with moderate to severe disabilities through a well-defined system of support and individualized behavioral programming.
- Adhere to campus/district attendance policy as assigned by supervisor
- Follow rules, regulations and policies of Stafford MSD and follow directives from supervisor.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by district/campus supervisor.
- Establish and maintain open communication between students, teachers, parents and administrators.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to articulate information accurately and clearly.
- Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students with behavior challenges.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook
- Collect and trace appropriate data according to each student's individualized plan.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Display tolerance necessary for accepting supervision for and criticism of job performance.
- Engage in on-going professional development to increase knowledge and skills of positive student behavior support for all students to which you provide service.
- Work in harmony with supervisory, faculty, and peer personnel.
- Utilize professional information discreetly and judiciously.
- Support and follow administrative Board Policy.
- Represent the school system to the community in a positive and professional way.
- Maintain a sincere, friendly attitude toward patrons and always exhibit excellent customer service.
- Regular attendance is required.
