The Shop Helper’s main responsibilities are organizing the warehouse, tracking inventory and maintaining company vehicles. This involves working in the warehouse as well as helping with other miscellaneous tasks such as running errands, grounds keeping, repairs around the shop/office, staging materials for upcoming work orders and occasionally traveling to job sites to assist with work being performed in the field. This individual must be familiar with parts and materials used in commercial construction and repairs and be able to accurately identify, purchase and organize inventory.
Role and Responsibilities
Keeping warehouse clean and organized.
Stocking frequently used items automatically when inventory gets low.
Communicating closely with Operations Manager on tasks that need to be performed.
Driving to suppliers to pick up materials, taking the most efficient route for the stops assigned.
Delivering materials to job sites as needed.
Loading and unloading equipment and materials before and after jobs.
Maintaining grounds at the office/warehouse including maintenance of lawn, fencing, driveway and parking areas.
Maintaining fleet of vehicles including preventive and reactive maintenance as well as washing. (Vehicles are taken to local mechanic, repairs are not self-performed.)
Maintenance and operation of equipment such as scissor lifts, forklift, jetting machine, lawn equipment, hand and power tools.
Occasional travel to job sites to work alongside technicians when extra hands are needed.
Occasional unscheduled (emergency) needs may arise after hours. Must have flexibility to start early or stay late as needed.
Running various errands as needed such as packing and shipping, returns, stocking office supplies and other miscellaneous tasks.
Qualifications
Must employ good communication skills with technicians and office staff.
Must have a reliable smartphone and be proficient with the usage of various applications.
Must have knowledge of construction materials and tools with the ability to accurately identify parts needed for work orders.
Must be a team player and willing to help wherever needed, even if tasks given are outside of regular job responsibilities.
Must be able to lift 70 lbs. and be on your feet all day.
Must be able to multitask and prioritize work to be done when specific assignments are not given.
Must be reliable and able to give sufficient notice for any scheduling conflicts.
Must be flexible and able to adapt to frequent changes, delays and unexpected events.
High School diploma/GED or trade school equivalent required.
Position requires a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen. Will take backgrounds but none that are violence.
