What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transportation Project Engineer position at Stahly Engineering & Associates?
Stahly Engineering is hiring a transportation project engineer to join our team! We are looking for an individual to assist senior engineers with transportation engineering support for a variety of private and public projects across Montana and Wyoming. Deals with all portions of the design and works with all applicable codes. This position with work directly with the Transportation manager and will be placed in charge of multiple projects as needed.
Essential Functions of the Job
- Serve in a technical role under the direction in and collaboration with a Project Manager.
- Prepare detailed engineering designs, specifications, estimates and technical reports for roadway and highway projects.
- Coordinate design activities, maintain project schedule, monitor and report project progress and resolve problems.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Maintains product and company reputation by complying with federal and state regulations.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Requirements Analysis, Design Skills, Project Management, Manufacturing Methods and Procedures, Process Improvement, Technical Understanding, Documentation Skills, Safety Management, Supervision, CAD, CAD/CAM Circuit Design
- Knowledge of MDT or other state’s transportation departments and their processes is preferred
- Design skills and technical understanding of engineering fields that may include:
- transportation related design;
- storm water drainage, including hydrology and hydraulics.
- Skill and experience in the project management process
- Knowledge of engineering related support services that may include survey, geotechnical practices, material testing, permitting requirements, and construction management/inspection
- Knowledge of safety management practices and ability to direct a project team in safety related practices
- Ability to supervise other professionals and manage sub-contracted service contractor
- Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) skill, MicroStation software skill
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software
- Communication and writing skills
- Documentation skills
- Ability to write and review contract documents and specifications
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers and clientele in a team-oriented environment
- Capability to conduct public relations activities required for projects which may include client contact, city and county governments, state agencies, federal agencies, and public meetings.
B.A. or B.S. in Civil Engineering, Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.), minimum of 4 years of engineering experience
Physical Demands (if any):
Field operations may include walking and standing for extended periods of time and/or lifting equipment in excess of50 lbs.
Work Environment:
Can be located either in the Stahly Engineering Helena office and/or in temporary field offices operating for extended periods of time. Must be prepared for both the office environment and field operations.
