The Stamford JCC Performing Arts Department is seeking a passionate and talented individual to join our dance faculty in a Part time position for the start of the 2024-2025 season. The Jr. Company position is a teaching-centered position with some administrative support involved. This position requires instruction in Ballet, Pointe, Contemporary, and Jazz. Applicants must have a passion for working with children, with strong skills in choreography and dance pedagogical elements. Strong experience in directing and curating performances, which is required for the Jr. Company group, this is a dedicated and invested company and requires the Lead Instructor to teach, choreograph groups, solos, duets, and curate some marketing material to help promote the performances. They should have knowledge of dance composition, pedagogy background and expertise in at least one technique of Ballet and pointe. Responsibilities:
- A minimum of 3 and a half direct service hours (teaching,) and 3 or 4 hours of private rehearsals a week, to be done between the hours of 3pm and 8pm Monday - Friday and/or weekends
- Direct, choreograph, and lead rehearsals for our Jr. Dance Company
- Coordinate and lead projects for all Jr. Company, and in collaboration with Performing Arts Artistic Director
- Choreograph and teach original material for dance productions & Jr. Company performances
- Attend some Performing Arts staff meetings and Events
- Collect content for posts on social media
- Other duties as assigned by Director of Operations for Performing Arts, and Senior Director of Programming
Minimum Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of prominent lead teaching in a Dance setting for Ballet, Contemporary, and or leading a company
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher with a concentration in dance pedagogy or Performing Arts, or 5 years of professional dance experience is equivalent
- A strong background in dance technique
- Required to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays, as events require
- Must be able to collaborate & communicate well
- Ability to liaise in a professional manner with parents and students
- Must be proficient in a multitude of dance and theatrical techniques; including but not limited to some of the following: Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Contemporary, Tech, and dance composition. Additional knowledge or talents appreciated.
Pay: $55 per hour teaching, $25 per hour for all other services outside of teaching (direct service).
