Assistant Farm Curator (Part-time)
Reporting to the Assistant Farm Manager, the Assistant Farm Curator role is a part-time position working approximately 14 hours per week. Candidates must be available to work on Friday and Saturday from 8am-4pm. This position will be responsible for the cleaning, feeding, exercising, and caring of the animals, as well as interacting with the public through scheduled programs and spontaneous contact.
Specifically, the Assistant Farm Curator will:
- Serve as a member of the Heckscher Farm team, cleaning, feeding, exercising, and providing enrichment for animals, as well providing education through communication with visitors.
- Support SM&NC special event weekends, such as Harvest Festival and Spring on the Farm.
- Aid in the teaching drop in programs.
- Operate farm vehicles such pick-up trucks and golf carts.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Essential Skills:
- Farm animal care experience highly preferred.
- Must be 18 years or over or have be 16 or 17 years old with a CT Certificate of Training to operate any kind of power-driven farm machinery.
- Must communicate professionally, respectfully.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs., bend, stretch, and stand for extended periods of time, climb stairs, reach, twist, sit, walk, and/or run.
- Experience or comfortability with large farm animals preferred.
- Must be a great team player and able work well independently.
- Must have a sense of humor, flexibility, and great rapport with the public.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
