Position Summary
The Program Assistant for PLTI plays a support role in planning, organizing, and coordinating implementation of the PLTI curriculum for adults wishing to improve the lives of children, families and communities. The Assistant will oversee many aspects of the training with guidance form the Director of Education and Engagement (Director) and an active volunteer/alumnae Design Team.
On average, the position is 10-15 hours per week but could be more or less depending on the course schedule, with a maximum of 400 hours total. The position will begin immediately and last until June 20, 2025. The Assistant must attend Thursday sessions in-person from 4:30pm-9:30pm from January 30, 2025 through June 12, 2025 and two (2) Saturday sessions on January 25, 2025, from 7:30am-5pm and March 29, 2025, from 8am-3pm.
Program Description
Participants in the PLTI curriculum will become advocates for children through a community-building retreat; a 10-week instructional course on community, personal development, and parent leadership; and, a 10-week civics program. Through PLTI, participants will practice communication, public speaking, and media advocacy skills; understand budgets, policy, and laws that affect children; learn how to work in political systems; and work on a culminating community project.
Responsibilities
· Assist with recruitment and interviewing of PLTI participant candidates.
· Prepare materials for PLTI participants, including binders, name tags, handouts, etc.
· Attend and coordinate logistics for in-person sessions and events (e.g. graduation).
o Set up the learning space, including supplies, name tags, chart paper, etc.
o Take attendance
o Trouble-shoot for participants who may have challenges during class
o Support facilitators in keeping to the agenda or adjusting as necessary
o Assist the Food and Logistics Volunteer
o Send reminders and follow up emails to participants each week
· Monitor facilitators for quality control with the assistance of the Director.
· Attend a weekly 1-hour planning meeting with facilitators and adjust session agendas as needed. Curriculum must be reviewed beforehand.
· Assist participants with the planning of their community projects.
· Provide regular progress reports to the Director.
· Attend virtual State and National PLI meetings, as needed.
· Assist CLTI Lead Teacher as needed during in-person classes.
· Uphold the mission and vision of SPEF, PLTI, PEP and other SPEF parent leadership programming.
Qualifications and Requirements:
· Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field
· Preferred: Two years of relevant work experience
· Preferred: PLTI graduate
· Required: English language proficiency
· Preferred: Spanish language proficiency
· Required: Facilitation and project management experience
· Eager to learn and able to adapt to changing priorities
· Professional, reliable and will work well with a dynamic team
· Possess strong leadership and communication skills (both written and verbal)
· Must be familiar with Google, including Drive, Docs, Forms, Slides and uploading and sharing files
