Waste Water - Building Maintenance Technician

Summary Full understanding of the plant's waste water treatment plant and building equipment maintenance and repair.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Waste Water Treatment Plant. (WWTP) Following established company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for the housekeeping of the WWTP and surrounding areas of responsibility.
  • Responsible for following environmental and safety guidelines and requirements.
  • Responsible for the safe handling and storage of the WWTP chemicals.
  • Continually monitor the system to ensure proper chemical feeding, levels and adjust controls or override automatic controls to obtain specified operation of equipment.
  • Applies manual control procedures when automated control fails.
  • Maintains the WWTP equipment through the daily, weekly, monthly and annual inspections and pm's.
  • Responsible for building/grounds maintenance and repair; roof, walls, lights, doors, sinks, drains and related equipment.
  • Responsible for the domestic hot water systems and related.
  • Record and fill required operation checklists.
  • Repair and replace mechanical equipment, piping, electrical controls and valves.
  • Responsible for the preventative maintenance program which includes printing out work orders, distributing work orders and entering changes and parts per task into the computer.
  • Responsible for the Hot Work Permit, the contractors program, the confined space program, the PHA action item management report and other OSHA and EPA matters.
  • Adjust controls to isolate and clear broken lines for repair or shut down equipment.
  • Replace or adjust defective or worn parts to repair system.
  • Responsible for the domestic hot water systems and related.
  • Maintain facility's safety systems such as fire suppression/sprinkler system, Ansul system, fire extinguishers, fire alarm pull stations and alarm system.
  • Responsible for air handling systems and related (i.e. ceiling/roof exhausts).
  • Maintain working condition of exterior lighting.
  • Coordinate grounds maintenance and safety as required, snow, ice, etc.
  • Perform other duties, as needed.

Experience/Education

  • Previous experience in waste water treatment process is preferred, but not required.
  • Basic Building maintenance skills, plumbing, electrical, painting, etc.
  • Must have basic computer skills to utilize company computer system to retrieve work assignments and enter basic information into the system.
  • Safety conscientious and have good initiative
  • Must be detail oriented and self-motivated
  • Must have good attendance consistently.
  • Must follow company required training programs.
  • Must qualify and successfully be able to complete company HAZMAT training program.
  • Basic knowledge of operating a computer and computer software
  • Related experience in general maintenance, plumbing and grounds maintenance.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and E.P.A. regulations and requirements
  • Experience in a USDA meat processing facility preferred.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours. Holiday and weekend work is required.
  • Position requires heavy walking; standing for prolonged periods of time; bending, squatting; reaching, and climbing in performing work activities.
  • Must be able to work any shift when requested.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.


Equipment Used

  • A variety of tools including hammers, wrenches, metal snips, electric drills, pipe cutters and benders, measurement gauges, etc.
  • S.C.B.A.'s and full-face gas masks

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is exposed to extreme cold temperatures in the plant and freezer. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Hearing protection must be worn at all times while in the engine room.
