Field Operations Technician

We are seeking a Network Operations Technician to install, provision, test, troubleshoot, splice, and maintain high-speed fiber optic transmission equipment and telecommunications circuits. The role involves supporting both reactive and proactive maintenance of Small Cell / DAS Networks, resolving network issues, and ensuring seamless service delivery.

Responsibilities

• Work with fiber optic, SONET, Ethernet, and SDH-related test equipment, including OTDR, PMD, Optical Spectrum Analyzer, and BER test sets.
• Conduct and validate all testing of network equipment per company procedures and manufacturer specifications.
• Work with the Network Operations Center (NOC) for final acceptance and testing of newly installed equipment and rings, including provisioning, alarm monitoring, and network switch protection validation.
• Perform site surveys to ensure quality installation of racks, equipment, power plants, and fiber cabling.
• Label and tag all equipment and cabling according to network engineering diagrams.
• Perform advanced analysis and troubleshooting to resolve network issues.
• Conduct both hardware and software updates/changes to remote site equipment.
• Maintain electronic records of work completed.
• Interface with customers and carriers to support service delivery and assurance.
• Respond to network outages, impairments, and emergencies within assigned areas.
• Conduct elevated bucket truck inspections and repairs.
• Complete annual preventative maintenance inspections.
• Operate and understand RF and fiber-related test equipment, including PIM analyzers, antenna analyzers, RF power meters, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, OTDRs, fusion splicers, and fiber optic power meters.
• Use PC and web-based tools for network monitoring and administrative tasks.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree preferred.
• Valid driver's license required.
• CCNA Certification (or equivalent) a plus.
• DOT/Bucket Truck certification preferred.
• 2-5 years of experience in telecommunications equipment installation and maintenance (OSP/ISP preferred).
• Working knowledge of SONET, WDM, and Ethernet networks.
• Experience testing and delivering high-speed telecom services.
• Familiarity with fiber, coax, and low-voltage troubleshooting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn new tracking software.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to multitask and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Experience working with web-based ticketing and network monitoring systems.

Additional Details
The base range for this contract position is $25 - $35 /per hour, depending on experience.
Our pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hires of this position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
