Manual Radial Drill/Subarc Operator

Job Profile and Essential Functions
The Manual Radial Drill/Subarc Operator is responsible for setting up and operating Manual Radial Drills and Subarc Machines in accordance with required specifications. Duties include:
- Reading and interpreting prints for required specifications and dimensions.
- Setting up parts and making layouts according to blueprints.
- Operating Manual Radial Drill and Subarc Machine efficiently.
- Measuring parts using various measuring tools, including tape measures, dial calipers, dial indicators, and micrometers.
- Removing slag using grinders.
- Operating overhead cranes daily to load machines with parts.
- Occasionally operating forklifts.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Minimum two years of Manual Radial Drill experience required.
- Knowledge of radial drill operations, including drilling and tapping various hole sizes in different metal types while maintaining close tolerances.
- Three or more years of experience welding pressure vessels or heat exchanger components.
- Moderate proficiency in Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) processes for manufacturing pressure vessels and heat exchangers.
- Ability to pass a weld qualification test to obtain a code stamp.
- Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints for specifications and dimensions.
- Capability to weld within the parameters of a WPS/PQR.
- Self-motivated, highly productive, and able to efficiently execute plans with moderate supervision.
- Team-oriented mindset, able to work collaboratively to achieve company goals.
- Ability to consistently maintain less than a 5% X-ray repair rate.
- Strong attention to weld quality, with the ability to recognize and rectify substandard welds.
- Dependable and punctual, with a willingness to work outside standard hours when necessary.
- Highly safety-conscious, maintaining strict adherence to workplace safety protocols.
Physical Requirements
This position involves exposure to welding fumes, gases, and grinder dust, making the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) imperative. The work area is not climate-controlled, meaning extreme temperatures may be experienced. The environment may also include high-noise areas.
- Ability to safely lift 50 pounds and perform physical tasks such as sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, and reaching.
- Capable of working in a shop environment throughout all seasons.
- Ability to safely enter and work in confined spaces within exchangers or vessels.
- Capable of safely tying off and working from elevated heights on top of exchangers or vessels.
