Bluetooth/NFC Applications Engineer

Standard Fleet
San Francisco, CA Full Time
POSTED ON 1/23/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 4/14/2025

Why Standard Fleet?

Electric vehicles are superior for just about every business use case. Businesses are rapidly adopting them but lack the software infrastructure to unlock their true value. Our mission is to accelerate the commercial adoption of electric vehicle fleets by setting the standard in EV fleet management.

Every member of the Standard Fleet team is fueled by an unwavering passion for the electrification of transportation and is deeply committed to making our products better. We come from companies like Apple, Uber, Tesla, Stripe, Robinhood, Yelp, and Embark. We've gained significant customer traction with a small team and want your help to grow faster.

Standard Fleet is well-funded and backed by some of Silicon Valley's top investors. We were founded by David Hodge, who previously founded Embark. At Embark, the team built a popular transportation app used by millions, which was eventually sold to Apple.

We're seeking an application engineer with a focus on building features that interact with low-level systems like Bluetooth and NFC. You'll be working on the foundational technology that connects electric vehicles with our software, enabling seamless communication between vehicles, charging stations, and Standard Fleet's systems. This is a rare opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the future of a rapidly evolving market with enormous growth potential.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and optimize systems that interact with low-level hardware such as Bluetooth and NFC for vehicle-to-device communication.
  • Take these low-level capabilities and integrate them into user-facing applications.
  • Collaborate with external vendors to ensure seamless integration between our software and various connected devices.
  • Develop systems to process and manage data from connected vehicles, charging stations, and other fleet systems.
  • Work across teams to ensure the reliability and security of these communication protocols.
  • Help drive the technical direction of our product while making thoughtful trade-offs between speed and maintainability.
  • Own features from start to finish, architecting solutions for complex problems.
  • Identify and address issues in real-time as fleets use our software in their day-to-day operations.

Qualifications

We don't believe in qualification checkboxes for candidates. These often cause great candidates to think they're not qualified. If you think you can help us scale our business, let's talk and see if we're a fit.

You might be a good fit if...

  • You have experience working with low-level systems, specifically Bluetooth and NFC technologies.
  • You enjoy working closely with hardware and understand the intricacies of device-to-device communication.
  • You have a passion for electric vehicles and the future of transportation.
  • You have strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on low-latency, reliable communication between hardware and software.
  • You're experienced with building applications and can comfortably switch between working on hardware integration and core software features.
  • You have a customer-first mindset and are interested in building robust systems that help fleets operate efficiently.
  • You're a self-starter who takes initiative and drives projects to completion.
  • You're excited about working in a fast-paced and dynamic startup environment.
  • You're a team player, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a distributed team.
