KBSI/WDKA TV, the Standard Media-owned duopoly in Cape Girardeau, MO is looking for our next Digital Content Manager!

 

Job Summary 

The Digital Content Manager will transform and enhance our digital presence by finding, investigating, producing, editing, and distributing fresh content (video and text) across multiple digital and social media platforms to reach and engage new audiences. The Digital Content Manager will ensure we win breaking news and weather through our digital platforms. They will be the newsroom leader for the NOW Local News App and will work in tandem with the Executive Producer to lead the NOW brand for the staff. The Digital Content Manager will organize and expand our current efforts, working closely with the Executive Producer and the rest of the Newsroom staff, to delegate tasks and keep the staff informed about social media and digital activities to help improve broadcast and digital news content. The Digital Content Manager will improve our SEO position and successfully lift digital metrics monthly by growing our digital products, including the Now Local News App, kbsi23.com mobile site, kbsi23.com desktop site and our social platforms. Additionally, they will be responsible for the News staffs' optimization of the Now brand, App, and our other social media resources. This individual will be an innovative trailblazer, adept at staying ahead of trending topics, who can't wait to chase down a story. This person will be a great writer with passion for content and urgency.  

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Post breaking news quickly and accurately while maintaining open communication with newsroom staff as stories develop
  • Produce video content and engage with audiences on multiple platforms, including the Now News App, kbsi23.com, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc.
  • Solicit, identify and use user-generated content from social media platforms and app; distribute to news staff
  • Research, write, edit, and publish time-sensitive local, regional, and national news content, with a focus on clarity, fairness, legality, spelling, grammar, punctuation, and style
  • Write highly effective headlines and story summaries, and pitch stories to regional and national news sites
  • Ensure the station's website is updated with fresh content, including news articles, videos, interactive features, and landing pages
  • Clip and post weather, breaking stories, local news, and post extended interviews and other behind-the-scenes content to our website, Now Local News App, and other applicable digital platforms regularly
  • Develop and distribute regular email newsletters with top stories, special features, and exclusive content to keep the audience engaged and informed
  • Conduct keyword research and optimize news articles and videos for search engines to improve visibility and attract more organic traffic
  • Lead staff on best practices for digital content creation and social media engagement with an emphasis on the Now News App
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive digital content strategy that aligns with the station's goals, and coordinate with news team to ensure timely and relevant content is published across digital platforms
  • Oversee the station's social media accounts, including content creation, scheduling, and engagement
  • Provide the news department with comprehensive weekly analytical reports to track the progress of our digital products allowing MMJs to see the performance of their digital stories, offering insights in audience engagement and reach, and fostering a competitive environment with recognition of top performing content
  • Provide regular reports to senior management with insights and recommendations for improvement, specifically ways to progress activity, engagement, and revenue opportunities digitally
  • Work with GM, News team, and other departments to ensure our digital content is in-line with our brand and our broadcast

 

Requirements & Skills:

  • A bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, broadcast media, digital media management, or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in television news or digital content management
  • An advanced understanding of social media platforms, especially Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, etc.
  • Previous experience working with internet video platforms, video editing software, graphic design tools, and a solid understanding of formats and codes
  • Strong digital publishing skills including a solid understanding of SEO concepts, AP style, headline writing, and basic HTML
  • Experience with WordPress, Adobe CS, Google Analytics, and/or other industry-standard tools, as well as Microsoft Office 365
  • High-level understanding of journalist ethics and standards
  • The proven ability to build and grow a following through social media platforms, preferred
  • Experience working in a fast-paced breaking news environment, preferred
  • An aptitude for being a self-started who is comfortable working both independently and with others in a fast-paced environment
  • A desire to be a key part of an innovative, growing team of Journalists and to take on additional responsibilities over time, as assigned
