Position Overview
Under the direction of the Purchasing Manager, the Supply Chain Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, forecasting, transportation, and inventory management of raw materials. Foster productive communication with internal customers, management, and suppliers.

Hours
8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday
Functions
- Leverage ERP system to forecast demand and to submit and manage purchase orders
- Meet with suppliers on a regular basis to capture and address any pricing, supply, quality, or performance issues and to communicate demand forecasts
- Conduct requests for information and quotes, negotiate price, payment terms, shipping, and lead times
- Obtain critical supplier information, including supplier agreements, and create supplier cards in IFS
- Identify, source, evaluate, and recommend new opportunities for ingredients, packaging components, and co-manufacturers
- Collaborate with Purchasing team, Production, and Product Development to determine priority items
- Identify new and current supplier options
- Obtain critical documentation and initiate Raw Material Evaluations
- Manage part set up and approval process in IFS for new and existing items that are purchased
- Manage supplier and inventory part data in ERP system to maximize performance
- Manage outsourced processes and materials
- Work with supplier and internal customers when components do not meet quality or performance standards. Document supplier issues and initiate corrective actions where applicable.
- Participate in annual budget process
- Actively participate in cross functional project teams
- Advise Purchasing Manager of important changes in relative markets or products vital to the company.
- Create, revise, and manage applicable SOP’s and job aids
- Attend 1-3 trade shows per year to remain current with new and current ingredient and packaging offerings
- Back up other team members as needed
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Bachelor's or associate degree in a job related major preferred
Certifications/Licenses
- Driver’s license
- ASCM (APICS)/ISM
Experience
- 2-6 years of experience in related field
- Experience in purchasing/supply chain
- Experience in basic business practices
Specialized Knowledge & Skills
- Knowledge of supply chain/procurement functions
- Computer skills (IFS, Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel)
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, weight conversions, and volume.
- Ability to read and interpret purchasing related documents such as specification sheets, Certificates of Analysis, catalogs, product-related literature, quotes, and technical books and/or manuals.
- General knowledge of dietary supplement GMP’s and how they relate to ingredients and product contact items.
- General knowledge of New Product Development process.
- Ability to prepare reports, purchase orders and correspondence related to purchasing.
- Ability to communicate effectively with suppliers and with other employees of the organization.
- Must manage time and workload effectively.
