What are the responsibilities and job description for the Civil Estimator position at Standard Rock LTD?
Job Summary:
The Civil Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for a variety of civil construction projects. You’ll work closely with project managers, superintendents, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure that each bid is complete, well-documented, and submitted on time.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze project plans, specifications, and geotechnical reports
- Perform accurate quantity takeoffs and cost analysis for earthwork, utilities, grading, paving, and other civil scopes
- Solicit subcontractor and supplier quotes, ensuring competitive pricing
- Prepare detailed proposals and bid packages
- Collaborate with field personnel to validate means, methods, and production rates
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits
- Maintain estimating database and historical cost records
- Support project hand-off to operations and assist with budgeting when awarded
Qualifications:
- 3 years of experience in civil construction estimating (preferred)
- Proficiency with estimating software (e.g., B2W, HCSS, AGTEK, or similar)
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and civil scopes
- Excellent math, analytical, and communication skills
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
Bonus If You Have:
- Field experience in heavy civil or sitework
- Familiarity with local markets and subcontractor networks
- Experience with public and private bid processes
