Description
The Role: We are seeking a passionate, driven, detail-oriented, and collaborative General Manager for our flagship dispensary. This role will provide leadership, direction, and support, overseeing daily operations of the dispensary, including handling the needs of all customers and hiring and developing a team of budtenders who are enthusiastic about delivering a best-in-class, innovative cannabis retail experience that is compliant with state and local rules and regulations. The ideal candidate has the ability to adapt to business needs and has demonstrated leadership experience, as they will be given significant responsibility with the operation of the dispensary while maximizing sales with a customer service focus. Previous cannabis retail experience is necessary.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Management:
- Develop and implement Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs), best practices, and policies to advance the company's mission, vision, goals, and objectives at the store level.
- Oversee store opening and closing activities.
- Deliver optimal productivity in stores through operational excellence, process improvement, and consistent resolution of challenges.
- Ensure compliance with all policies, standards, and values.
- Ensure that the physical environment is safe, sanitary, and that all equipment/technology is in good working order.
- Lead initiatives, store strategies, and specific projects at the store level that may be assigned by executive-level management.
- Ensure adherence to local and state laws and regulations by enforcing company policies and procedures.
Employee Management:
- Hire, develop, and train dispensary employees. Lead the development of employee training materials, including education and development of the team regarding cannabis seed to sale education, products, and consumption mechanisms.
- Conduct performance reviews of dispensary employees on a regular basis.
- Coordinate and staff the dispensary schedule.
Financial Management:
- Manage financial records and cash handling procedures.
- Conduct weekly audits and report any variances.
Customer Experience:
- Collaborate with other functional leaders in developing and implementing a best-in-class customer experience.
- Manage all aspects of the dispensary with a customer-first mentality and an intense focus on company culture and ethics, customer service, sales growth, and brand standards.
- Stay abreast of customer and business trends and actively communicate with corporate stakeholders to provide input on retail and strategic business initiatives.
Inventory Management:
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of every product and strain in the store, as well as industry-wide product knowledge.
- Interface with wholesalers and grow/processors to negotiate and source quality product supply.
- Maintain and organize back stock and ensure products are correctly stored.
- Ensure inventory areas are clean and compliant with health and safety regulations.
- Update inventory records and reconcile weekly shipments.
- Assist the Inventory Manager as needed in the overnight inventory audit on the last day of each month, playing a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the inventory.
Community Engagement:
- Serve as a liaison to the local community and area wellness providers.
- Coordinate outreach and educational programming with input from grow/processors and the marketing team.
Collaboration and Strategy:
- Provide input regarding marketing strategy and initiatives in collaboration with current managers and the new marketing team.
- Work collaboratively with compliance, security, and transportation managers regarding compliance, loss prevention, security, and logistics on all mutual issues and in prioritization of needs.
Management Expectations:
- Leading by Example: The GM should be on the floor, actively coaching, assisting customers when needed, and engaging with the team.
- Weekend & Peak Shift Presence: Retail requires flexibility—weekends, holidays, and peak hours are critical times for leadership to be present and engaged.
- Effective Scheduling & Workforce Planning: A GM should be able to efficiently staff the store without excess dependency on leadership for approvals or adjustments.
- Team Accountability & Performance Management: Regular check-ins, coaching conversations, and performance management should be part of day-to-day operations.
- Business Ownership & Strategic Thinking: A strong GM should not only manage day-to-day tasks but also proactively look for ways to improve operations, team engagement, and customer experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Excellent corporate communications skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
- Must possess a current state cannabis worker license or permit (if applicable).
- Excellent computer and technical skills, including experience with web browsers, retail POS systems, and credit card processing terminals.
- High-level critical thinking, attention to detail, and ability to create and review data metrics.
- Must be comfortable handling high-volume cash.
- Must be able to individually lift up to 40lbs.
- Must be able to work in an environment with moderate to loud noise levels.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- High degree of discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive information.
- Willingness to comply with all industry-related laws, regulations, and policies.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team, driving operational efficiencies and effectively communicating at various levels within the organization.
- Proven success in maintaining quality service and client relationships in a high-paced setting.
- Authorization to work in the United States and must be 21 years of age or older.
Working conditions:

This role is in a brick-and-mortar retail store environment with occasional field visits related to the role. You may encounter typical hazards such as loud noises, moving machinery, and electrical equipment.
Pay: Starting from 80k
