Job Title: Speech Language Pathologist- Base salary starts at $50,000 annually

Supervisor: Special Education Director

Requirements:

A. Education Level: Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology.

B. Experience: Minimum of three (3) years in Speech Language or

Related field.

C. Other Requirements: Must have a valid North Dakota Educator’s License

For Speech Language Pathology.

Must have knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act [IDEA]

Ability to serve in a consultative capacity with individuals and groups, including teachers, parents, paraprofessionals, and students.

Must have excellent communication skills and use effective positive interpersonal communication.

Ability to use authority, set boundaries, and hold high standards for students.

Ability to adapt to general and special curriculum and instructional strategies to meet individual learning styles.

Ability to create a youth friendly, student centered environment.

Knowledge and understanding of due process and data privacy requirements.

Knowledge of how to identify and access resources to students with disabilities.

Must have a valid Driver’s License.

Must pass a background check in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, Public Law 101-630.

Must submit to a pre-employment Drug Test.

Indian and Veteran’s Preference considered.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

This position specifically works with students that have been identified as having a Speech/Language Impairment under the Individual with Disabilities Education Act [IDEA]. Provides students with appropriate instructional opportunities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Assess, diagnose, treat, and help to prevent speech, language, cognitive-communication, voice, swallowing, fluency, and other related disorders. Works with students who cannot produce speech sounds, or cannot produce them clearly; those with speech rhythm and fluency problems, such as stuttering; people with voice disorders, such as inappropriate pitch or harsh voice; those with problems understanding and producing language; those who wish to improve their communication skills by modifying an accent; and those with cognitive communication impairments, such as attention, memory, and problem solving disorders.

1. Attend all professional development as outlined by Standing Rock Community School as related to the providing a Free Appropriate Public Education to students in need of special education program and services.

2. Demonstrate an understanding of Special Education policies and procedures.

3. Use a cooperative approach by working as an effective team member.

4. Respect confidentiality and other professional ethics.

5. Exhibit sensitivity and understanding of individual and cultural differences. Use appropriate instructional strategies and materials that reflect each student’s culture, learning styles, special needs and socioeconomic background.

6. Manage and administer an appropriate program of instruction for students identified as having Speech and Language impairment.

7. Provide specialized instruction and services to identified speech, language, or hearing impaired students in small groups or individually as specified by their Individual Education Plans (IEP).

8. Monitor and annually review students’ Individual Education Plan (IEP) along with quarterly progress reports.

9. Conduct multiple speech and language assessments; development of accompanying assessment reports; IEP and goal development; monitoring of assigned student’s progress; and ability to communicate with parents and staff.

10. Maintain accurate current records for each student.

11. Understand the roles and organizational structure of general and special education and the relationship in providing student services.

12. Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with the SRCGS Policies and Procedures.

13. Performs additional duties deemed necessary as assigned by the Supervisor.
