What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adolescent Addiction Counselor-Treatment Prog position at Standing Rock Sioux Tribe?
SCOPE OF POSITION:
The Adolescent Addiction Counselor will provide services to youth requiring assistance with alcohol, drug abuse and other substance abuse related adversities.
SUPERVISION:
The Adolescent Addiction Counselor will be under the supervision of the Director, Standing Rock Day Treatment Program whom will provide direction and conduct performance evaluations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversight of daily operations, coordination and clinical services for the youth program.
- Coordinate with tribal programs and agencies in a collaborative effort to provide the needed and identified services
- Complete intake form, review records and consults with other professionals to evaluate condition of client.
- Provide individual and group counseling to assist client in overcoming alcohol, drug and substance dependency.
- Counsel family members to assist in coping and providing support for the client.
- Provide referrals for client to other support services as needed such as; medical evaluations, treatment, social services and mental health.
- Monitor condition of client to evaluate success of therapy and adapts treatment as needed.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical records that are consistent with the requirements of the Tribe, IHS data systems and state standards.
- Prepare documents for presentation in court and presents testimony in court.
- Participate in meetings, in-services and supervisory session as required.
- Establish a close collaborative working relationship with referral sources and agencies to assure optimum services for clientele and families.
- Coordinate and facilitate aftercare plans and tracking for those clientele discharged from treatment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in related Behavioral Health field or specific training in adolescent addiction counseling with Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC).
- Strong computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Excel and database services for reporting.
- Proficient in carrying out general office functions with efficient operation of (copy, scanner, fax, printers, and telephone) standard office equipment.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills; understand and carry out both verbal and written instructions and request clarification when needed.
- Excellent customer service skills and demonstrate professionalism; maintain tact, courtesy, composure and flexibility when dealing with a variety of circumstances, situations and personalities.
- Valid driver’s license and meet insurability requirements.
- Must pass a Minimum Background Investigation to meet certification of eligibility requirements of five (5) years of sobriety.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to become knowledgeable of Tribal Code of Justice, SRST Treatment Program Policies and Procedures Manual adopted by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.
- Demonstrate understanding of SRST Drug Free Workplace Policy, Title XVIII, Title XXVII, Personnel Policy and Procedures, Financial Policy and Procedures.
- Ability to comply with the SRST Treatment Program Sobriety and Abstinence Clause.
- Ability to maintain Indian Health Service Contract obligations and maintain program efficiently in preparation of site visits and evaluation conducted by Indian Health Services in accordance with Chapter 18 of the IHS Standards Manual.
- Ability to submit monthly, quarterly and annual reports to Director, HEW Committee, Tribal Council and Federal Agencies as required of the 638 Master Health Contract.
- Ability to coordinate with Treatment staff and collaborate with other resource agencies (local, state and National) to develop and implement (drug, alcohol and addiction) educational information for dissemination to communities, schools, agencies and pubic for awareness purposes.
- Demonstrate thorough understanding of mental illness and addiction dynamics of adolescents.
- Ability to perform in the best interest of the Program and clients.
- Demonstrate strict compliance to confidentiality and code of ethics in accordance with the profession of addiction counselors; protection of confidential information as specified in 42, CFR Part 2 (Federal Confidentiality Regulations); sign program confidentiality statement with understanding of the penalties for violations as it pertains to the Treatment Program and client information.
- Ability to effectively communicate (in person, writing, telephone or email) with the public, outside organizations, agencies and programs.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity in regard to program and service delivery.
