A Brief Overview

Under direction of a physician and / or resident physician, the focus of the job is to enhance the efficiency and improve the throughput of patients while maintaining and improving patient satisfaction. The FLOW COORDINATOR will accomplish this in the following manner :
1. Record a physician-directed patient history of present illness (HPI), past medical history (PMH), family and / or social history and physical examination (PE), including pertinent positives and negatives.
2. Record procedures and the results of laboratory tests and radiographic images.
3. Improve the efficiency of patient care by assisting the physician with routine matters.
4. Serve as an ambassador / liaison between the physician, the patient and the ED staff.

What you will do
1. The FLOW COORDINATOR may advise the physician when test results are available, when a patient is ready for disposition (i.e., all tests are resulted), when a critical value has been flagged / reported, when a patient is ready for a procedure (i.e., the appropriate cart is in the room and ready for use), and when there has been a delay in completion of ordered tests (e.g., a urine has not been obtained, blood has not yet been drawn, etc.).
2. The FLOW COORDINATOR may perform a “patient ambassador” function on behalf of the physician, checking to see if patients are comfortable, have had adequate pain relief, etc. The FLOW COORDINATOR may obtain blankets and pillows for patients, as well as nourishment (following approval by the physician or the patient’s nurse). The FLOW COORDINATOR will inform the physician if the patient has, pain, nausea or any other condition or request that requires attention.
3. The FLOW COORDINATOR may serve as a liaison between the physician and nurses, clinical associates and Health Unit Coordinators (HUCs) by forwarding messages between the parties (e.g., a request by the physician to prepare a patient for suturing). The FLOW COORDINATOR may not communicate messages regarding direct patient care (e.g., medication or IV orders).
4. The FLOW COORDINATOR may also perform the above functions in collaboration or in support of the resident working with the physician.
5. The physician will personally enter all orders for patient care utilizing EPIC. FLOW COORDINATORs will not enter such orders.
6. All medication and nursing orders for patient care are to be personally communicated to a nurse directly by the physician, and not by a FLOW COORDINATOR.
7. The FLOW COORDINATOR may, at the Physician’s direction, assist with the discharge process by selecting and preparing the discharge instruction and follow-up FLOW COORDINATORP or Specialist Referral in EPIC. The FLOW COORDINATOR may not prepare any prescriptions.
8. The physician will sign each patient’s medical record when it is complete and after he / she has reviewed and, if necessary, amended the document for accuracy.

Base Pay Scale : Generally starting at $34.06 - $38.33 per hour
The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. This pay scale is not a promise of a particular wage.
