Conducts sonographic procedures on assigned patients under the direct supervision of a physician. Ensures equipment is functional and maintains records and reports on equipment, procedures performed, and billing.
Responsibilities
- Documents observations made during procedures for final interpretation by physicians or other qualified medical professionals.
- Maintains ultrasound equipment and accessories, reporting problems to supervisors.
- Explains examination processes to patients and instructs and assists them throughout procedures.
- Operates diagnostic ultrasound equipment, observing sound wave patterns produced, producing and processing diagnostic images, and presenting completed sonograms to physicians.
- Participates in maintaining records for research cases and evaluates new equipment for potential use in departments.
- Performs various sonographic procedures using ultrasonic high-frequency sound waves to detect abnormalities, including masses, abscesses, and stones.
- Performs infection prevention techniques, proper probe handling, and cleaning according to procedures.
- Reviews patient medical history, reloads prior exams for comparison, and utilizes ancillary equipment appropriately.
Qualifications

- Interprets physician instructions and patient medical and clinical records to determine type of ultrasonic procedure/test to be performed.
- Ability to perform general abdominal, small parts, OB-GYN, and limited vascular sonography on varied patient populations.
