QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED
- At least 1 year of combined experience as..
- 1) a consumer or family member of consumer who is in recovery from mental illness, and/ or
- 2) a paid or volunteer work in a Mental Health/Social Service setting or in providing services to one or more mental health/social service consumers that qualifies the applicant for the Mental Health Aide/Assistant (MHA) status with the County Children’s Mental Health System of Care
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Position Specific
- Performs a wide variety of duties to assist professional mental health/social services staff in coordinating and providing services based on therapeutic need and in consultation with supervisor to assigned youth, and families in the home, office, school, or other community-based settings.
- Assist youth and parents, utilizing strength-based practices and/or specific evidence-based practices, with simple and practical strategies to help them confidently manage their children’s behavior, prevent problems developing, and build strong, healthy relationships
- Provide various services including but not limited to; individual and/or group rehabilitation, in-home based services, intensive case coordination, case management, and crisis intervention services as required by the Agency, the County Children’s Behavioral Health, and/or Contract Agencies.
- Create and maintain accurate documentation of client records in compliance with all County Medi-Cal (EPSDT) and all other funding agencies (Managed Care) or relevant regulatory agencies. Progress notes and case records need to be maintained and kept updated after each interaction.
- Attends weekly staff meetings, supervision, and case management staff meetings as scheduled

- Communicates effectively with all members of the Child and Family Team and/or treatment team
- Maintains positive relationships with consumers and customers

- Identifies temporary and sustainable resources and services within family and community environments
- Assists families with transitions from resources provided or funded by the formal program to resources and services provided or funded by the family and community
- Participates in the Internal Utilization Review process and other peer-review mechanisms, providing feedback to colleagues, accepting feedback from colleagues, and promptly responding to recommendations
- Performs tasks and services as assigned in individualized plans. Tasks may include but are not limited to:
- Encouraging and engaging in tasks or activities that support, or "spark," identified strengths, skills, and positive qualities in children and families
- Problem-solving with children and families, including outlining alternatives and predicting consequences while supporting children and families to make good choices for themselves. Teaching specified skills to children and families
- Performing day-to-day tasks that support family functioning (including transportation, reminder calls, and other tasks)
- Modeling appropriate behavior to direct families toward identified goals
- Participating in healthy group dynamics within various settings including family homes, schools, parks and recreation centers, and treatment facilities
- Performing other tasks identified in individualized plans
- Maintains accurate and timely records
- Follows all agency policies and procedures
- Follows all agency, state, and federal health and safety rules and regulations
- Adheres to all confidentiality requirements
- Seeks out clinical information and advice as needed, accepts constructive criticism and reasonable recommendations from supervisors
- Ability to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the families
- Participates in the program/agency 24 hour on-call programs

Employment At-Will
Employment at the Agency is terminable at-will, which means that employment may be
terminated at any time, without cause or reason, by either the employee or the Agency. In
addition the Agency may also demote, layoff, transfer or reassign employees at any time at its
sole discretion without cause or reason

Starting Salary Range: $20.00 - $24.00 DOE
