DEFINITION
Under the direction of the site administrator, to instruct pupils who require remedial and specialized assistance in academic, social and behavioral skills areas; to plan, develop, organize and assist in the operation of a comprehensive individualized educational program for pupils with learning handicaps; to assist instructional personnel, other specialists, and parents in designing and implementing an appropriate educational program; and to do other related functions as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES : Personnel in this job classification may perform any combination of the essential duties shown below. - Works directly with pupils, individually or in groups, to provide service that is over and above the regular classroom instruction.
- Individualizes the instruction in accordance with program goals, with a focus on language arts and mathematics.
- Provides appropriate prescriptive programs based upon diagnostic findings, and evaluates pupil progress.
- Utilizes a variety of specialized methodology in instruction and in providing assistance to other instructional personnel, including but not limited to, remedial instruction, demonstration lessons, activity participation using a variety of educational equipment, materials, and learning aids.
- Reviews, analyzes and evaluates pupil history and background, and assists instructional personnel in assessment and program placement.
- Utilizes a variety of behavior management strategies and techniques.
- Prepares, administers, scores and records the results of pupil evaluations.
- Coordinates the Individual Education Plan (IEP) team meetings.
- Reports and records results of pupil assessments and team member perceptions, and makes recommendations.
- Counsels, confers and communicates with parents, instructional personnel, and the administrator concerning pupil progress and the interpretation of individual education plans.
- Assists pupils with regular classroom instructional program assignments, as needed.
- Prepares and maintains pupils records in accordance with district protocol.
- Maintains a suitable room environment.
QUALIFICATIONS

Perform research and develop activities pertaining to curriculum and instructional programs.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION : Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and skill is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and skill would be :
EDUCATION : Possession of a Baccalaureate or higher degree from an accredited college or university.
EXPERIENCE : Successful instructional experience in a regular or special education classroom.
CREDENTIAL : A valid teaching credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT : Possession of a resource specialist certificate.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT : Insurability by the District's insurance liability carrier. Employment is contingent upon fingerprint and background clearance, and proof of a recent negative tuberculosis test result.
