Position:

The Stanley Clark School seeks an experienced, organized, and collaborative full-time Athletic Director for the 2025-2026 school year who is eager to work with students spanning preschool to grade 8, along with their parents, teachers, and division directors. This is a 10-month position reporting to the Head of School and Director of the Middle School.

We seek to employ faculty and staff who embody the school’s mission to inspire and challenge students to achieve excellence in academics, the arts, athletics, and character in a nurturing environment that fosters critical thinking, creativity, accountability to self and others, and the discovery of each student’s strengths and passions. All faculty and staff must have a passion for working with children and be of outstanding personal character.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Community Connections and Support

  • Make customer service a top priority
  • Support and collaborate with local club sports programs
  • Develop a menu of opportunities outside of Clark (club/AAU/training/instructional) and build connections with those opportunities to guide Lower School and Middle School families seeking additional programming.
  • Collaborate with outside organizations to bring programming like fencing, lacrosse, etc., to Clark.
  • Coordinate with the Summer Camp Director and Extended Day Director to offer high-quality revenue-generating athletic opportunities while sharing/collaborating with spaces and equipment.
  • Promote and execute gym and field rentals within the broader community.
  • Provide regular parent education about how best to support their children through athletic experiences.

Communication

  • Communicate with students and families well in advance of the season, as well as efficiently during the season when games are canceled or postponed.
  • Facilitating results of athletic competitions to database and the Director of Marketing in a timely fashion for sharing with the school community.
  • Regularly collaborate with the Director of Development and Director of Marketing to share stories of impact and connection that inform marketing and align with stewardship and philanthropic priorities.

Teaching Responsibilities

  • Ability to teach Preschool-Grade 8 students in movement, PE, and Athletics
  • Leader of the low ropes course, regularly hosting groups of students in grades 3-8
  • Coach a sport each season and/or lead the non-comp PE in both athletic blocks
  • Duties as assigned by the Director of Middle School
  • Attend faculty meetings

Administrative

  • Design a robust Middle School PE experience for students not participating on a team.
  • Recruit, hire, and retain outstanding coaches
  • Serve as PE Department Chair and a member of the Curriculum Committee
  • Provide high-quality professional development for all coaches, both in-house and outside professional resources.
  • Set goals and support each coach in their work towards those goals.
  • Ensure that proper instruction takes place that provides student safety, instilling of sportsmanship, and skills development in developmentally appropriate ways.
  • Build a robust schedule of games, matches, and meets (Soccer, Volleyball, Cross Country, and Basketball)
  • Creatively schedule after-school practices, offering additional time to develop skills.
  • Manage the Athletic Budget, ensuring efficient use of funds and helping with long-term planning.
  • Coordinate with the Business Office to pay coaches, referees, etc.
  • In collaboration with the PE Department and Coaches, plan the Cross Country Invitational and the Chicago Basketball Trip.
  • In collaboration with the PE Department, plan, organize, and execute the annual Olympic Day event.
  • Planning, organizing, and executing the annual Student Awards Ceremony
  • Overseeing the department's day-to-day scheduling and staffing
  • Communicating with the Director of Facilities regarding needs related to gymnasiums and fields
  • Point person for all security needs during athletic events.
  • Coordinate personnel needs, scheduling, and transportation with 3rd party organizations who support our programming (Hockey, Figure Skating, Tennis, and Golf).

Compensation:

The position offers all benefits afforded to full-time employees, including but not limited to comprehensive health benefits, generous paid time off, paid life insurance, tuition remission, a generous retirement plan, and professional development. Salary is based on experience.
