Position Title: Child Nutrition Bookkeeper

 

Term of Employment: Full-Time; 12 months

     

Reports To: Child Nutrition Director

 

Pay Information: SG 63

 

General Statement of Job

Performs intermediate administrative work overseeing financial records of the program, assisting staff with financial issues, creating and submitting related required or requested reports, and related work as apparent or assigned.

  • Essential Job Functions
  • Monitors cash flows to ensure sufficient funding for payroll and other expenditures.  
  • In the absence of the HR/Payroll clerk, posts payroll data onto timekeeping software.  
  • Balances and deposits funds.  
  • Analyzes financial reports for general ledger status.  
  • Projects revenues and expenditures.  
  • Prepares budget amendments.  
  • Trains staff in the finance software.  
  • Audits the financial records of individual sites; ensure sites are in compliance with deadlines and reporting requirements; monitors data posted to the accounting system.  
  • Verifies and codes invoices for payment.  
  • Resolves issues related to financial matters.  
  • Designs spreadsheets and other reports as required or requested.
  • Promptly and accurately process free and reduced price meal applications and respond to customers with results.
  • Performs other duties deemed appropriate and assigned by the supervisor

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of and ability to use grammar, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation.
  • Considerable knowledge of office practices and procedures.
  • Considerable knowledge of bookkeeping.
  • Some knowledge of accounting techniques and procedures.
  • Skill to operate a computer and 10-key calculator.
  • Ability to compile and summarize information.
  • Ability to access information through a computer network, or from a mini- or main-frame computer.
  • Ability to use moderately complex word processing or spreadsheet software programs.
  • Ability to reconcile divergent entries.
  • Ability to learn, interpret and explain policies, regulation and programs.
  • Ability to resolve problem situations.
  • Ability to schedule variable work.

Minimum Training and Experience

  • Associates/Technical degree with coursework in accounting, business, or related field and considerable experience working with financial data, accounting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions

  • Requires the occasional exertion of up to 25 pounds of force.  
  • Regularly requires sitting and repetitive motions.  
  • Frequently requires speaking or hearing and using hands to finger, handle or feel.  
  • Occasionally requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing or pulling and lifting.  
  • Work has standard vision requirements.  
  • Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas using the spoken word.  
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.  
  • Requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data.  
  • Must be able to operate machines, motor vehicles or equipment.  
  • Occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions.  
  • Work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
