General Statement of Job
The plumber, under the direction of the Plumbing Supervisor, is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of water and waste disposal systems. Assignments are generally routine and detailed instructions are given with assignments. Problems are referred to the Plumbing Supervisor. This position also assists in repairing and maintaining water, gas, oil, sewer pipes, sewer lines and storm drains.
Essential Job Functions
Performs skilled work in the repair and maintenance of the schools' plumbing, boiler, hot water, portable water, and sewer systems.
Repairs and replaces broken water and sewer lines
Clears sewer and drain lines, commodes, etc
Measures, cuts, threads, and assists in the installation of pipes and tubing
Repairs and replaces hot water tanks, circulating pumps, etc
Maintains equipment and supplies
Operates backhoe, trencher, and other equipment as needed
Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Techniques, methods, and tools of the plumbing trade.
Skill in the performance of duties related to the plumbing trade.
Ability to use tools associated with the plumbing trade.
Ability to follow oral or written instructions.
Minimum Training and Experience
High school diploma or GED
Extensive and broad experience in plumbing work; five years experience in the repair, replacement, and construction of plumbing systems preferred
Valid North Carolina Driver's License
Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions
This work regularly requires standing, walking, speaking or hearing, using hands to finger, handle or feel, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing, pulling and lifting.
Must be able to operate a motor vehicle.
Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and / or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and / or 25 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Physical demand requirements are those for Medium Work.
