Your Opportunity
Our Building Science team in Portland, Oregon is looking for a Structural Engineer to design repairs for damaged and deteriorated existing buildings, design of new buildings and additions, renovations to existing buildings and to perform building condition assessments and evaluations. The role will require the preparation of structural contract documents and collaboration with our Building Science Specialists and Structural Engineers. As well, coordination will be needed with our Architect and Contractor clients, and other teams within the firm. The position will provide structural support for a wide range of projects, including commercial, mission-critical, residential, industrial, education, and municipal projects.
The role of a Structural Engineer is to work with general direction on small and medium complexity / sized projects, and as a team member on large projects under the guidance of a Senior Structural Engineer. The Structural Engineer should be able to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer all engineered systems or products for a project. A Structural Engineer will perform a variety of tasks which includes calculations, preparation of construction documents, and fieldwork. Your Key Responsibilities
With supervision and direction from a senior structural engineer, the responsibilities will include :
- Development of structural design through sketches, electronic models, diagrams, and other visual formats for steel, concrete, masonry, and wood-framed structures
- Direct Auto CAD team for drawing preparation and review deliverables prior to submission to the client
- Coordinate with other disciplines (architectural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, civil, etc.) to ensure compatibility with the design intent
- Attend site visits related to pre-design information gathering, construction and postconstruction review
- Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and / or external consultants
- Participate in meetings with owners and contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors
- Assist senior staff with developing and managing the project scope, budget, staffing and schedule
- Perform and oversee the performance of calculations using company standard software, and proprietary manufacturer software
- Participate in constructability review
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects
- Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for the structural group
- Work on multiple projects
- Review shop drawings and submittals, respond to requests for information, prepare site observation reports, and perform other contract administration tasks
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil or Structural Engineering is required
Licensed Professional Engineer is preferred
Minimum of 5 years of experience is required
