As a Project Manager within the Management Consulting Team, you will be supporting asset, organizational, financial, infrastructure funding, economic, policy, regulatory, and technology consulting services to local governments and utilities in North America.
The Successful Candidate Will
- Support commercial project management across the portfolio of projects, including revenue recognition and cost forecasting/estimates to complete for many individual projects
- Perform project setups and baselining and assist in identifying and preparing change orders
- Perform independent reviews of project proposals and workplans, including the review of commercial terms, calculation of project margins, and consideration of risk.
- Address financial reporting requests from other project managers or corporate finance team
- Perform deputy project management activities (billing, forecasting, reporting, insurance, sub agreements, etc.) for many projects
- Identify project audit lists, coordinating with the audit scheduler, and performing PM framework compliance audits
- Potentially assist with Utilitiwise data management (our database of client financial information)
- Serve as a primary member of multiple teams at client meetings, including interactive use of analytical tools and facilitating workshops; as well as direct and train junior staff in these areas.
- In some cases, serve as the client account manager and project manager for client engagements, ensuring delivery of high-quality services on time and within budget.
- Lead the project team in interactive meetings with our clients to identify and analyze issues affecting their organizations and key stakeholders.
- Maintain and grow client relationships and lead business development efforts in responding to client requests, RFQs, and RFPs.
- Serve as an independent reviewer of analysis prepared by peers or junior staff to ensure technical accuracy and appropriateness of methods and tools being utilized as well as solutions being evaluated.
- Meet performance goals and objectives as assigned, with respect to MTC business metrics for delivery excellence, client-specific demands, stated delivery milestones, quality standards, project management framework, mentoring of junior staff, and all required training activities.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of and interest in local government organizational structure, budgeting / reporting, infrastructure funding, and types of services they provide is required.
- Working knowledge and understanding of corporate accounting and a background in analyzing project management from a commercial perspective. Past experience with an engineering company or management consultancy is preferred.
- Proficiency with PowerPoint, Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat Pro and other business systems required.
- Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
- Capable of presenting/sharing analyses in an interactive work setting while being able to make adjustments in a live setting.
- Self-starter capable of efficiently and proactively working independently as well as with a geographically dispersed team on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Management experience and the ability to directly manage staff and to manage large and diverse project teams to deliver client projects.
- Strong sense of Team. Always willing to step in and take on additional responsibility for the good of the entire Team.
- Strong attention to details as deliverables are open to public review and scrutiny.
- Willing to travel as needed. Travel may be initially 5-10%, potentially growing up to 15%. As you develop your skills for success and become a crucial part of multiple project teams across a broad geography, travel requirements could increase.

- Bachelor’s Degree in business, mathematics, finance, economics, statistics, data science, engineering, accounting, or related fields are required. Master’s Degree is a plus.
- 10 years total post-undergraduate working experience in accounting, finance, and/or working for local government agencies in these areas:
- Knowledge of and experience with project management frameworks, accounting, and commercial terms
- Direct work experience/history with engineering companies or consultancies
- Elements of project management experience, including preparing and managing project scope, schedule, team activities, communication, and deliverables.
