Job Description: Elementary Attendance, Engagement & Afterschool Coordinator
Reports To: School Administration
Minimum Qualifications:
- 4 year college degree; or
- 4 years of equivalent experience in the field of education, social services or related field
- Successful experience supervising diverse groups of students and staff required
General Description: Under the direction of the office of the Assistant Superintendent, works with the Principal, staff, teachers, parents, and students to support school and district initiatives related to school attendance, parent and student engagement, and is responsible for the daily oversight and management of after school activities within the assigned school.
Knowledge and Ability
Essential: The ability to establish cooperative, productive relationships with teachers, administrators and students and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in English (and Spanish preferred); presentation, documentation, organizational, and computer skills; ability to work flexible hours including evenings.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implements effective strategies, in collaboration with the building administrator and the attendance team, to increase attendance and on-time arrival including outreach efforts for chronically absent students through phone calls, home visits, incentive plans, and involvement at strength-based parent teacher conferences.
- Sets short term goals to work towards an average daily attendance of >97% and chronic absenteeism of ≤5%
- Schedules and prepares data for bi-weekly attendance team meetings, and attends district meetings as necessary.
- Serves as a LEAP home visitor
- Serves as the liaison between school and parents, relaying the needs of one to the other; educates teachers and staff on how to communicate and work effectively with parents as equal partners; advises and trains parents on how to address issues with the leadership staff in school meetings; serves as a school-based intermediary contact for concerns and comments made by parents and community members; provides referrals to community-based services for families; expands opportunities for continued learning, voluntary community service and civic participation; develops community collaborations; promotes sharing of power with parents as decision-makers; helps parents understand the educational system so they can become better advocates for their children’s education.
- Supervises after school program instructors, volunteers, and partner activities to ensure safety and high quality delivery of programming.
- Ensures proper coverage for absences of instructors.
- Collects and reviews staff timesheets.
- Observes, provides feedback, and develops action plans with instructors.
- Evaluates instructors twice per year.
- Assists instructors in designing purposeful community outreach projects.
- Recruits target number of students for daily participation in programs.
- Communicates enrollment changes with supervisor.
- Arranges bus transportation home for after school participants.
- Coordinates space usage for after school program.
- Submits supply requests for after school program.
- Communicates regularly with building principal and teachers regarding behavioral, attendance, academic performance, and homework concerns.
- Attends Extended Learning department meetings and other meetings as required.
- Utilizes AfterSchool21 to submit: attendance, registration, demographics, program calendars, activities and rosters to CSDE.
- Completes end of year reporting requirements in line with grant expectations.
- Ensures compliance with grant requirements including: after school program attendance rates, and family engagement efforts.
- Other related projects as assigned by the building principal.
- Assists the principal/school staff to recruit parents to serve on the School Governance Council, PTO, Welcoming Walkthrough Team, and ad hoc committee representatives as needed.
- Takes part in opportunities for professional development at the local, regional, and/or state level with proper authorization; attends all local meetings and trainings for Parents.
- Involvement Coordinators; shares ideas and experiences with school or district staff, leadership team, and/or other parent professionals.
- Summer work involving the summer school, ESY or rec program.
- Summer work in the school involving family engagement.
- Summer work in the school involving receipt of mail, receipt of supplies, inventorying.

Terms of Employment: Position is one year, grant funded with the possibility of continuing as determined by funding and successful outcomes. $50,000/year, 12-month, Full time 8 hours per day
