Overview:
We are seeking a Crew Lead for Traffic Control that will be responsible for overseeing and directing field crews to ensure the safe and efficient setup, operation, and takedown of temporary traffic control zones. This role requires strong leadership, communication, and decision-making skills to manage daily operations, maintain compliance with safety standards, and respond to changing conditions on job sites. The Crew Lead serves as a key liaison between field personnel, supervisors, contractors, and the public, ensuring that traffic flows safely around work zones with minimal disruption.
This position is ideal for someone with experience in traffic control who can lead by example, enforce safety protocols, and adapt to fast-paced, sometimes high-pressure environments.
This position is for the South Hill, VA and surrounding areas
Responsibilities:
- Team Supervision & Leadership
- Direct and supervise flaggers and other traffic control personnel on-site.
- Ensure team members are following safety protocols and work instructions.
- Conduct on-site briefings and assign daily tasks.
- Traffic Control Setup
- Oversee the correct setup, placement, and removal of traffic control devices (cones, signs, barricades, etc.).
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal traffic control standards.
- Adjust traffic control plans based on site conditions and evolving needs.
- Safety Enforcement
- Enforce safety rules and guidelines to protect crew, motorists, and pedestrians.
- Monitor work zones to identify and address any safety concerns or hazards.
- Conduct safety inspections and incident reports as needed.
- Communication
- Serve as the primary point of contact between field crews, supervisors, and clients.
- Maintain clear communication with contractors, law enforcement, and other stakeholders.
- Relay updates, delays, or issues to supervisors or project managers.
- Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain logs of crew activities, incidents, and equipment usage.
- Ensure daily reports are accurate and submitted on time.
- Track hours worked and verify timesheets for the crew.
- Training & Mentorship
- Train new crew members on traffic control procedures and safety practices.
- Provide ongoing coaching and support to ensure performance standards are met.
- Equipment Management
- Ensure traffic control equipment is in good working condition and properly maintained.
- Coordinate inventory checks and report any damaged or missing gear.
Qualifications:
- Experience is required. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A LICENSE AND FLAGGER CERTIFICATION, PLEASE DO NOT APPLY.
- Must be able to work in all temperatures and weather conditions
- Must be able to remain in standing position for long periods of time
- Knowledge of construction site traffic control regulations and procedures.
- Must know how to setup flagging operations, shoulder closures, and lane closures.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
Pay is based on experience!
