What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time Before/After School Teacher position at STAR Education?

STAR Education is a private, non-profit, before and after school enrichment program looking for after-school teachers and aides who are fun, talented, and energetic and who can teach: Science, Theater, Art, Recreation, or other enrichment classes. STRONG CUSTOMER SERVICE, ENTHUSIASM and FLEXIBILITY are a must for this fun, fast-paced & high-energy atmosphere!
If you want to gain classroom management and teaching skills this is the perfect place! Hours are Monday - Friday from 1:30/2:30pm – 5:30/6:00pm. Morning/split shifts may also be required from 6:30am-9:00am 2-5 days a week. Summer shifts are morning (earliest end time is 12:45pm) or afternoon (latest start time is 12:30pm).
Please note that STAR does not offer morning only or summer only positions.
Daily Responsibilities Include:
- The care and safety of a group of school-aged children
- Teaching curriculum to students
- Monitoring student recess
- Managing student behavior using STAR’s proven positive discipline approach
- Maintaining classroom appearance and standards of cleanliness
- Following California State Licensing policies
- Interfacing with families and sharing updates on their child’s day
STAR’s Ideal Candidate:
- Is at least 18 years old
- Loves working with school-aged children
- Has strong customer service skills
- Is passionate about teaching
- Has a skill or interest to be able to share with students in a classroom setting, i.e., sports, art, theatre, etc.
- Is punctual and has reliable transportation
- Brings energy and excitement to teaching students
- Is available in the afternoons from 1:30-6:00pm and is looking for part time work
- CURRENTLY HIRING: Teacher applicants are required to have a total of 12 college units in a combination of the following subjects: Early Childhood Education, Nursing, Sociology, Art, Music, Dance, Recreation, Human Services, Social Welfare, Physical Education, Home Economics, Child Development, School Age Child, and Psychology.
- NOT CURRENTLY HIRING: Teacher's Aides applicants must have completed high school or an equivalent
