About The Role:
The Merchandise Assistant reports to the Buyer and is responsible for providing analytical, operational, and clerical assistance to support all areas of the Buyer’s businesses.
Reports To: Buyer
Essential Functions:
- Assists the Buyer to meet sales, profit, inventory, and turnover goals.
- Generates new product set up sheets, creates sku’s and processes purchase orders for new items.
- Writes, places, and tracks purchase orders to include custom order product.
- Organizes and maintains current and accurate product assortment line-up.
- Review “on order” and make proper adjustments to ensure the company is maximizing opportunities and minimizing liabilities.
- Maintains vendor relationships and monitors supplier execution.
- Assist in managing price changes and markdowns.
- Partner with buyer in completing all marketing/advertising initiatives.
- Manage website additions and approvals.
- Various projects as assigned.
Requirements:
Education & Qualifications:
Relevant work experience can supplement any of the educational experience below
- High School Diploma, GED, ability to read, write and perform math at these levels is required
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience preferred
- Minimum of 2 years in a retail environment
- Experience in AS400 or other related technology preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook

- Ability to handle multiple tasks with ease, set appropriate priorities, and manage time effectively while paying strict attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to present information.
- Ability to identify issues, recommend and implement strategies to resolve problems.

- Ability to develop and maintain strong cross-functional relationships and a cooperative team environment that promotes high performance standards and attainment of goals.
Supervisory Responsibility: None.
Work Environment: This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, tablets, and other office equipment.
