What are the responsibilities and job description for the Biblical Counselor/MDC- FT position at Star of Hope Mission?
Job Summary: The Biblical Counselor is responsible providing drug and alcohol, marriage and family, career and vocational, mental health, academic and rehabilitation counseling for the men in MDC Programs in individual, group and/or family settings as needed. All counseling is done from a Biblical perspective.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide Biblical Counseling for the men in MDC Programs. This includes drug and alcohol, marriage and family, career, and vocational, mental health, academic, and rehabilitation counseling.
- Coordinate all counseling efforts with the appropriate Case Manager to insure both Counselor and Case Manager are working on mutually agreed upon goals and problems in the client’s recovery and walk with the Lord.
- Facilitate Process and 12-Step Groups from a Biblical perspective.
- Provide updates on resident’s progress to his Case Manager and the Manager of Program Services.
- Help provide positive and negative consequences for the resident’s behavior.
- Maintain current knowledge of Biblical Counseling by participating in on going Biblical Counseling training, by studying appropriate literature, and through interfacing with other program staff. Maintain any current licensures.
- Safeguard the security of the facilities, and all property belonging to the Star of Hope, its clients, and its staff. Report any dishonesty to her supervisor.
Other Job Responsibilities:
- Participate in Ministry and prayer activities, as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education, Skills & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university. Applicant must have certification in Biblical Counseling from an accredited college, university, or institution, with 4 years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience working with the homeless, recovering addicts or alcoholics and/or ex-offenders. Valid Texas Driver’s License with acceptable driving record and current liability insurance.
Be able to work respectfully, professionally and in a Christ-like manner with everyone, able to maintain required client/staff boundaries and possess a willingness to serve the Lord in a ministry that deals with homeless men, women, and children.
Equipment Used: General Office Supplies (Calculator, Telephone, Stapler, etc.), Computer Equipment (Monitor, Keyboard, etc.), Copier/Fax/Printer, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Work Environment: Normal business hours, office environment, and work holidays. Infrequent or occasional travel between facilities. Will occasionally be required to meet in program facilities. Work schedule may be subject to change to meet the business needs of the mission. Participation in ministry activities is encouraged. Professional dress. Jeans with no holes/fraying may only be worn on Fridays and only as long as a Star of Hope shirt (T-shirt, polo-style, or sweatshirt) is worn. Exposure to infectious diseases, poor hygiene, drug usage, verbal and physical abuse and other emergency situations relative to the homeless population is normal.
Relations with Others: Constant face to face discussions with clients and individuals. Occasional contact with immediate peers, peers in other departments, immediate manager, managers in other departments, and volunteers. Occasional public speaking and telephone conversation. Frequent electronic mail, written letters, and memos.
Physical Requirements: Sedentary work with lifting up to 10 pounds. Constant sitting, use of fingers, talking, and hearing and repetitive motions. Occasional climbing, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, tasting/smelling, and driving. Frequent repetitive motions. Constant clear vision at 20 inches or less and clear vision at 20 feet or more. Occasion depth perception and night vision. Frequent field of vision.
Other: Able to support through word and action the Star of Hope Christ-centered Mission statement, Faith Statement, and the mission’s core values of integrity, excellence, and commitment to life change.
