Job Summary
The internship and Social Services Coordinator oversees the intern program at Star of Hope. The position will recruit, screen and assign interns to appropriate Star of Hope departments. The position also oversees all on-site social service providers and will work across programs to identify needs and coordinate or refer to appropriate service providers. The position works with case management to perform weekly audits to ensure compliance with program standards.
Job Responsibilities
Education, Skills & Experience: Master’s degree in social work from an accredited university required. Two years post-master experience in working in a social service agency. Experience working with interns and school/universities who are looking for placement of their interns. Experience working with individuals who are experiencing homelessness, substance use, generational poverty, etc. Valid Texas Driver’s License, with acceptable driving record and current liability insurance.
Strong organizational, research, and technical skills. Strong oral and written communication skills. Strong time management skills with the ability to set priorities and meet program schedules, goals and objectives. Service–oriented attitude and tenacity for follow up and meeting commitments. Good judgment in dealing with confidential resident/client and intern information. Capable of coordinating detailed work and issues that need immediate attention. Ability to communicate and work cooperatively with employees, managers, directors, residents/clients, volunteers, and outside organizations that interact with Star of Hope. Experience working under stressful conditions and accustomed to dealing with constant interruptions.
Be able to work respectfully, professionally and in a Christ-like manner with everyone, able to maintain required client/staff boundaries and possess a willingness to serve the Lord in a ministry that deals with homeless men, women, and children.
Equipment Used: General Office Supplies (Calculator, Telephone, Stapler, etc.), Computer Equipment (Monitor, Keyboard, etc.), Copier/Fax/Printer, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. 15 passenger van.
Work Environment: Normal business hours, office environment, occasional weekend or evening events. Frequent visits with interns, other staff, and residents at program sites are required. Work schedule may be subject to change to meet the business needs of the mission. Business casual dress with occasional professional dress if appropriate. Jeans with no holes/fraying may only be worn on Fridays and only as long as a Star of Hope shirt (T-shirt, polo-style or sweatshirt) is worn. Exposure to infectious diseases, poor hygiene, drug usage, verbal and physical abuse and other emergency situations relative to the homeless population is normal.
Relations with Others: Constant contact with immediate peers, staff, residents/clients, and managers. Constant face to face discussions with individuals, electronic mail, written letters and memos. Frequent contact with peers in other departments and vendors. Frequent telephone conversation. Occasional contact with residents/clients and volunteers.
Physical Requirements: Light work with lifting to 20 pounds. Constant sitting, use of fingers, talking, hearing and repetitive motions. Frequent standing, walking, and feeling. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, lifting, handling and driving. Constant contact vision at 20 inches or less, and constant color vision and depth perception.
Other: Able to support through word and action the Star of Hope “Christ-centered” Mission statement and the mission’s core values of integrity, excellence and commitment to life change.

Job Summary

Job Responsibilities
- Oversee the internship program from AA, BA, BS, MSW, or MA degree programs offered at accredited colleges and universities in the field of social work or social services. Recruit, screen, and assign all accepted interns across Star of Hope’s facilities.
- Provide field supervision, intern orientations, and monthly trainings for all social work interns (associate, bachelor, and master levels). Complete required training, evaluations, and timesheets according to school requirements along with any required paperwork needed by the student.
- Conduct weekly case audits across all programs to ensure compliance with program standards and opportunities for interns to develop case note and internal audit skills.
- Oversee all on-site social service providers, identifying and coordinating needed services across all programs. Coordinate on-site community resource fairs 3X's a year.
- Consult with case managers and interns on an array of social services available to clients, residents, and neighbors of Star of Hope Mission to include, but not limited to, social security benefits, TANF, SNAP benefits, referrals for independent housing, WIC, ECI services, guardianship, disability services, etc.
- Engage and develop relationships with community colleges and universities in and around the city who may be interested in partnering with Star of Hope Mission to provide field internships to students.
- Visit and physically check in with interns at their worksite at least two times a month.
- Provide supervisor with monthly reports on student hours, activities and assessments/services provided to clients, residents, and/or neighbors. Meet monthly to discuss.
- Participate in Ministry and prayer activities, as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
