Position: Program Coordinator Salary: $37,000 - $41,000
Status: Full-time, non-exempt with benefits
STAR/PAL (Sports Training, Academics, Recreation/Police Athletic League): STAR/PAL is a non-profit organization comprised of civilian staff, independent contractors, and sworn officers from various law enforcement agencies, whose mission is to empower underserved youth to build a safer and more prosperous community by engaging with law enforcement and collaborative partners. Sworn officers and staff provide a variety of free educational, athletic, and recreational programs on site (at our facility in City Heights) and off site (throughout the County) to thousands of underserved and at-risk youth each year. All programs focus on promoting youth safety, positive life choices, and academic success, while also emphasizing community service, civic engagement, and leadership development.
The Program Coordinator reports to the Director of Operations & Community Impact and is responsible for managing resources and overseeing some STAR/PAL youth sports programs, including maintaining a schedule of the youth center.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage and develop schedule for youth center
- Coordinate STAR/PAL youth sports programs
- Seek out and coordinate attendance at youth-centered and community events
- Represent STAR/PAL at community and juvenile outreach programs and events
- Perform additional related duties as requested by Director of Operations & Community Impact
Education/Experience:
Minimum education currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution, preferably in social work or criminal justice program.
- One to three years related job experience is preferred
- Experience working or volunteering in a nonprofit environment
- Experience working with at risk youth, community development partners and law enforcement
- Ability to work independently, with minimal supervision
- Must have CA DL Class B with Endorsement P or willing to obtain within 30days of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Commitment to understanding and supporting STAR/PAL’s mission. Shows compassion and appreciation for underserved and/or at-risk youth issues.
- General knowledge of nonprofit organizational practices
- Must be highly organized and self-motivated
- Strong ability to work well within a team environment, with law enforcement and community members
- Bi-lingual or multi-lingual preferred
