Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Quality Assurance Technician – PCBA at Star Precision in Houston, TX. The Quality Assurance Technician will be responsible for verifying that all printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) meet established quality standards, conducting inspections, and assisting with continuous improvement initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with production, engineering, and process teams to ensure that PCBA quality meets or exceeds customer and industry requirements.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform in-process and final inspections of PCBAs, including surface mount (SMT) and through-hole assemblies, to ensure compliance with industry standards (IPC-A-600, 610, 620, and JSTD-001) and customer requirements.
  • Conduct visual inspections and utilize automated inspection methods (e.g., AOI, SPI) to identify and document defects or process deviations.
  • Collaborate with the production and engineering teams to address quality issues, initiate corrective actions, and verify effective resolution of non-conformances.
  • Maintain detailed quality records, such as inspection reports, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and CAPA documentation.
  • Support root-cause analysis efforts using problem-solving tools and methods (e.g., 8D, fishbone diagrams, 5 Whys).
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance product quality and manufacturing processes (e.g., Lean Six Sigma initiatives).
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant safety and regulatory guidelines.
  • Provide feedback and recommendations to cross-functional teams to proactively address and improve potential quality issues.


Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field is a plus)
  • 5 years of experience in a Quality Assurance or Quality Control role, preferably in an electronics/PCBA manufacturing environment
  • Familiarity with industry standards (IPC-A-600, 610, 620, JSTD-001) and inspection techniques
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify and document product defects
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally on corrective actions and continuous improvement
  • Experience using automated inspection equipment (AOI, SPI) is highly desirable
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment, managing multiple tasks under tight deadlines
