Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and patrol shelter premises to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure the security of doors, windows, and gates
- Assist in maintaining order and ensuring adherence to shelter rules and policies by residents, visitors, and staff
- Respond promptly to alarms and disturbances, investigating the cause and taking appropriate action
- Provide a visible security presence to deter potential incidents and reassure residents and staff
- Conduct regular checks of the facility, including sleeping areas, common areas, and outdoor spaces
- Report any irregularities, suspicious activities, or safety hazards to shelter management
- Assist in the management of access control, ensuring only authorized individuals enter the premises
- Provide assistance and support to residents and staff as needed, including conflict de-escalation and first aid if required
- Maintain detailed logs and records of incidents and activities during each shift
- Collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency services when necessary
- California BSIS Guard Card is REQUIRED
- Previous security experience is a plus
- High school diploma or GED
- Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field is preferred
- Strong observational and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to remain calm and composed in high-stress situations
- Must be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed
- CPR/First Aid certification is a plus
- Understanding and empathy towards the needs of homeless individuals and families
- Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally
- Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations
- The shelter environment may involve contact with individuals experiencing various personal challenges, including mental health issues and substance use
