Position Summary
The Senior Director, Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting will be responsible for the company's compliance with all internal and external reporting, filings and related analysis to ensure the accurate reporting of financial data in accordance with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position will drive the preparation (and when public, filing of Securities and Exchange (SEC) filings) and will advise on technical accounting considerations, document conclusions on the appropriate accounting for complex transactions as well as contracts and the adoption of new accounting standards. This position will be responsible for managing the company’s stock administration system (Shareworks) and Sarbanes-Oxley activities. This position will have senior executive exposure and will collaborate with external auditors, lawyers and other specialists on a regular basis.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead internal and external financial reporting process including prompt and accurate development, and, when applicable, approval and filing of 10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, and other SEC filings, including accurate EDGAR filings and XBRL tagging
- Manage the preparation of all financial statements, footnote disclosures, and MD&A; complete all relevant disclosure checklists and reporting questionnaires
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial data for earnings releases and assist in the review of texts and scripts
- Identify and analyze the impact of new or proposed GAAP accounting regulations, pronouncements, and other technical matters related to reporting (e.g., FASB or SEC rulings); benchmark disclosures against industry peers' filings
- Evaluate business transactions and perform technical accounting research, prepare technical memorandums that document issues and conclusions in a clear, logical and comprehensive manner
- Prepare monthly reconciliation for significant accounts, such as stock-based compensation-related calculations and resulting journal entries
- Prepare financial materials and other materials used in presentations to the Audit Committee, Board of Directors and senior management
- Assist with coordination of external audit activities related to the annual audit and quarterly reviews
- Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture within the team, promoting accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement
- Assist in management of key accounting system implementations and process improvements
- Manage the Sarbanes-Oxley activities including updating controls documentation, remediating control deficiencies and coordination efforts with the auditors
- Manage and complete special projects as necessary
Requirements
- Experience with accounting for stock-based compensation expense, financial statement preparation, and in-depth cash flow experience
- Ability to work well with others, including excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and adept at building relationships across the organization
- Hard working and detail oriented with excellent problem solving and analytical skills
- Ability to project manage and own their work product; proven ability to meet tight deadlines without losing accuracy
- Demonstrated strong technical accounting skills
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite with strong Excel skills
- Proficient experience in using NetSuite preferred
Education and Professional Experience
- Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting is required and CPA required
- 12 years of public accounting and industry experience required
- Minimum of 5 years public company experience required
- Experience and familiarity with biotech is desired
- SOX 404 experience is desired
- Working experience of using ActiveDisclosure is desired
Salary Range
The hiring salary range for candidates residing in California for this position is $204,000 to $255,000 annually. This salary range is an estimate of what we reasonably expect to pay for this posted position, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation geographic location, individual education, experience, tenure, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. This position is also eligible for bonus, benefits, and participation in the Company’s equity plan.
