Job Summary: HR Manager
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced HR Manager to join our team in a fast-paced plant production and fleet environment. This role will be instrumental in managing labor relations across six active unions, ensuring a collaborative and respectful partnership while maintaining a strong focus on safety, compliance, recruiting, and organizational culture. The HR Manager will lead initiatives to promote a positive work environment, driving employee engagement and fostering a culture of respect, accountability, and continuous improvement. Job Duties Include:
- Partners with the leadership team to understand and execute Star Tribune’s human resource strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, succession planning, and strategic workforce planning.
- Provides consultative support and guidance to managers and employees when complex employee relations issues arise.
- Manages the talent acquisition process, which may include recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions. This includes creating job postings, attending job fairs, screening applicants and conducting interviews for open positions.
- Provides quality and effective candidate experience and new hire on-boarding process, and new hire orientation.
- Creates learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees, managers, and leaders.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. Develops and reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance as applicable.
- Collaborates with leaders to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies, procedures, and training.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
- Ensures completion of required OSHA record keeping, training, and reporting.
- Manages plant Worker’s Compensation claims administration, including Accident/Injury reporting, following up with third party vendors, employees and supervisors as necessary to coordinate return to work.
- Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health issues. Reviews accident and incident reports and provides guidance on appropriate investigation and prevention of incidents.
- Works closely with management and labor relations Director to ensure consistent interpretation and application of collective bargaining agreements while adhering to appropriate labor laws.
- Serves as the main contact for FMLA and all other LOA's at the plant.
- Consults with plant management on various labor relations issues; makes recommendations and aids in the interpretation of existing contracts.
- Serves as a resource for general information concerning HR policies, programs and benefit plans, etc. for employees and managers.
- Serve as a contact at the plant for others on the HR team including payroll & benefits – this includes processing job changes; working on projects, training and general communication of Company events.
- Fosters collaborative partnerships throughout the business and participates in projects with colleagues at all levels to achieve organization objectives.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 8 years human resources experience as a senior generalist, with demonstrated expertise in talent management, employee relations, and workers compensation.
- Excellent oral/written communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated skills in successfully interacting/influencing across departments with all levels of employees and management.
- Skilled in building trusted partnerships, facilitating discussions, and coaching managers and employees.
- Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.
- Proficient with technology (HRIS, MS Office Suite, etc.).
- Ability to work a range of shifts in a 24/7 operation environment.
- Bachelor's degree; related advanced degree or HR certification preferred.
- Experience designing and facilitating employee training preferred.
- Labor Relations and Labor Contract experience preferred.
- Manufacturing environment is a plus.

Salary/Wage Range
$105,000 - $120,000 / year
Compensation for the role will depend on several factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
