The Job :

As a General Assignment Editorial Writer, you will be a versatile storyteller who can write on a wide range of issues at the drop of a dime. From the quiet rhythms of farm life to the pressing concerns of Minnesota's urban residents, you'll bring stories to life with language that's both compelling and thought-provoking. Your words will bridge the gaps, revealing the connective tissues that unite communities across our state.

You are a wordsmith. You thrive in the craft of writing about the here and now, with a knack for capturing what matters most to Minnesotans. If you're ready to bring your voice to a platform dedicated to a new era of opinion journalism, we want to hear from you.

What you'll do :

Create frequent original opinion content for digital, print and video platforms.
Stay on top of essential stories and developments from around the state with primary and original sourcing.
Write in a highly compelling and provocative manner. You are a must read.
Write accurate and engaging short-form commentary for publication on our Opinion social channels and Minnesota Star Tribune social channels and website.
Be enterprising and entrepreneurial.
Break news stories in your commentaries that help focus local and statewide agendas

Qualifications :

An accomplished writer with 4 years of experience.

Relevant newsroom commentary experience.

High standards and a commitment to fairness and accuracy.

A keen understanding of how search can help shape and promote coverage, along with a vision for how those techniques should evolve to keep pace with industry trends.

Strong project management skills, and the ability to juggle priorities on deadline - and then meet them.

Goal-oriented leader - or emerging leader - with a track record of getting buy-in and results from your work in commentary.

The ability to work regularly from the Star Tribune's headquarters in downtown Minneapolis.

Annual pay for this position ranges from $57,934.76 to $81,026.92 a year, based on the A1 through A4-scale level in the contract of the Minnesota Newspaper and Communications Guild.

Compensation for the role will depend on several factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience and may fall outside of the range shown.
